Navan O’Mahony’s 3-05 Clann na nGael 2-11

With the teams destined to meet in the final before this round was played, there was little more than pride at stake in Athboy on a sunny Saturday evening. Despite leading at the break, Navan O’Mahony’s were outscored in the second half with the hosts coming out on top.

The hosts started the scoring with a point after two minutes, responded to by an Andrew Snow effort for Navan O’Mahony’s. The sides were close for much of the low-scoring first twenty minutes and no more than a point separated them at any stage. On the 21 minute mark, it was four points to three in favour of the hosts, with Colm O’Toole and Marcus Stapleton adding to Snow’s score.

Two goals in quick succession came from Gavin Fox in the 23rd minute and Stapleton a minute later, after a Pat Nolan bat down. This put Navan O’Mahony’s five points ahead at the interval.

Navan O’Mahony’s 2-03 Clann na nGael 0-04

A flying start in the second half saw Navan O’Mahony’s extend their lead, when Brian Dunne hit a 65 yard shot to the net (which he definitely intended.) Clann na nGael responded well and hit three points in the next fifteen minutes, intervened with a goal to leave it very much to play for.

Shane O‘Brien, who started in goals and moved outfield at half time, raised a white flag in the sixteenth minute, followed by a Dunne point in the 21st. This was Navan O’Mahony’s last score of the game and a late goal and three points for the home side saw them over the line.
