Navan O’Mahony’s 1-13 Clann na nGael 1-10

An understrength Navan O’Mahony’s had a tough battle against Clann na nGael in Ráth Cairn on Sunday morning, just coming out on top in the end.

In spite of a good start, it was a tough battle for Navan O’Mahony’s. Scoring the first seven points, they held the hosts scoreless until the seventeenth minute. The Navan O’Mahony’s scorers in this time were Charlie Murray, Róisín Tobin, Neasa McDermott, Megan Collins and Lily Dwyer.

Losing centre-back Kate Falahee to injury, the sides were reduced to fourteen a side during the first half. A Clann na nGael goal in the seventeenth minute proved to be the last score of a lack-lustre half and left four points between the sides at the break.

The hosts opened up stronger in the second half and pointed from play twice in the opening minutes, leaving only two between the sides. A Collins point from play once again left three in it but two scores from Clann na nGael meant it was back to a one-point game after 12 minutes.

The fourteenth minute saw McDermott add another score, followed shortly by a similar successful effort from Rebecca Reilly. The sides exchanged points in the final quarter, with both sides adding three scoress in this time.

Dwyer kicked all three points for Phil Fay’s charges while Collins found the Clann na nGael net and in spite of a strong challenge from Clann na nGael, they held firm and managed to come away with the win.
