In spite of a nightmare start, Navan O’Mahony’s came out on top in Round 9 of the Div 1B FL played on a pleasant Tuesday evening in Paddy O’Brien Park. A strong second half performance got the Brews Hill side over the line.

After only two minutes, the visitors were four points ahead following a quick goal and point. Evan Coffey added his side’s first score of the game after four minutes, followed by a point from Seneschalstown.

By the 23rd minute, there was five points between the sides until corner forward Oisín O’Brien narrowed it to four once again with a free to leave it 1-04 to 0-03, with Paddy Dillon having kicked Navan O’Mahony’s other score.

A Robbie Keelaghan free left three points between the sides with four minutes remaining in the first half. Two injury time points, from Darragh Maguire and an Eoin Joyce free left only the minimum between the sides at the interval, Navan O’Mahony’s 0-06 Seneschalstown 1-04

The first ten minutes of the second half was very much point for point stuff, with efforts at one end matched at the opposite. Aodhan Mallon levelled the sides with a well-taken point after four minutes, before the visitors edged ahead again two minutes later.

Louis Collins equalised with a point in the eighth minute and a Joyce free gave the lead in the tenth minute. The lead was brief however, with Seneschalstown drawing level once again seconds later. Points from Collins and Mallon put two between the sides, although in the sixteenth minute this was again reduced to one.

Three frees and an effort from play from Joyce and a Cathal Smyth point from play gave Navan O’Mahony’s a bit of breathing space with the clock ticking down.  With one minute of normal time remaining, two quick points from Mallon and O’Brien left seven points between the sides.

Both sides added two points in injury time, with Clayton O’Sullivan and Smyth scoring for the home side. It ended in a seven point win for Navan O’Mahony’s, leaving them with one defeat so far.
