Leinster MFC: Kildare withstand Meath fightback

Kildare 0-13 Meath 0-12

Kildare held on to defeat Meath by the minimum in this Leinster Minor Football Championship semi final tonight at Hawkfield Kildare GAA Centre of Excellence.

The sides were level at the break 0-5 each. Can Commons and John Harkin settled Meath first with early points, Commons with another brace and a pointed free from Gaeil Colmcille’s Andrew Gormley accounted for the visitors first half total. 

Kildare hit the front early in the second half with a brace but Meath replied through Pat Crawley and Commons before the home side made a push for home scoring four points without reply from Harry Redmond, Joey Cunningham (2) and Cathal Moore.

But as seen in other games the young Royals refused to lie down and responded with with a Harkin brace and a fifth from Commons. Kildare replied with their last score from Cunningham on the 58th minute to open up a two point gap. 

Ollie Maloney narrowed the gap deep into injury time but time ran out for Meath and Kildare advanced to the decider against Dublin who were 6-15 to 1-8 winners over Offaly in the other semi final at O’Connor Park.
