FL Div 2A: Stalemate in Ballivor

May 24, 2023

Kilmainham's Mickey Newman

Ballivor 1-10 Kilmainham 1-10

Kilmainham travelled to Ballivor on a gorgeous evening for football. This was a big match for both clubs with both teams hovering in the bottom positions of the league table. With league games running out a win would have been massive for either team. Both teams took to the field missing a host of regulars. We were treated to a tough sporting game of football. Ballivor started sharper but could not convert some good chances. Then Kilmainham hit their purple patch with some excellent team moves that cut through the Ballivor defence. We went eight points clear and looked to be in control. A few frees from Ballivor reduced the deficit to four points at half time. Ballivor 0-5, Kilmainham 1-6.

Ballivor started the strongest in the second half. Kilmainham sat too deep and invited the home side on. The introduction of Barry Lynch helped Kilmainham gain some primary possession around the middle as Ballivor had started to dominate. Mickey Newman looked to have won it for Kilmainham but a late free from Ballivor levelled the match up. Kilmainham will be disappointed not to have taken the win after a very good first half. Poor mistakes throughout ultimately cost them the win. A draw was probably a fair result for both teams in the end. A result that leaves both teams on 5 points in the table with 2 league games remaining.

Next up for our lads is a home match against Donaghmore Ashbourne on Tuesday 6th June.
