Enjoying early territorial dominance Tones failed to make it count and converted just one of their first six scoring opportunities, a point from Dan O Neill. Those early scoring efforts  included a penalty attempt from Caolán Ward whose effort shaved the outside of the post. The home side by contrast were much more clinical and registered four points from five scoring opportunities in the first half. The sides were tied 0 04 each at half time with Caolan Ward, Alan Callaghan and Conor Sheppard on target.

Tones opened the second half with greater urgency and scored 2 02 in the third quarter, the goals coming from Kyle Moran and Gary Mc Fadden following powerful runs by Dan O Neill to set up the scores.  Dunshaughlin hit four points to leave the score Tones 2 06 to Dunshaughlin 0 08 but Tones seemed in a good place to carve out a victory. However the home side dominated the next period to hit 1 04. Tones lost Brughach Ó Fionnagáin to a black card but battled back to score 0 02 before the end but just came up short. The narrow margin at the end meant Tones would rue 11 wides while their opponents hit only two.
