Meath Hill 1-13 Dunshaughlin 0-4
Dunshaughlin’s 3rd team Journey to Meath Hill this year was the polar opposite in a lot ways to last years encounter at the same venue. It was a long way from the beautiful sunshine and the glorious football played by Dunshaughlin in the previous meeting. The weather on Friday in Meath Hill was very cold, wet and dark and the conditions didn’t suit Dunshaughlin. Although the score line would suggest a very one-sided contest, Dunshaughlin were only a point behind after 25 minutes.
Last year’s Minor John Muldoon made his championship adult debut for the club. Others at the other end of the age spectrum were also making debuts, as former Dunshaughlin greats Marty Reilly and Cathal O’ Dwyer donned the Black and Amber jersey again making their Premier 6 championship debuts. Proving class is permanent both players were very influential in play on the pitch. Gary Flanagan and O’ Dwyer scored the Dunshaughlin two first half points which left Dunshaughlin trailing by four points at half time.
Dunshaughlin scored the first point of the 2nd half from a free from Sean Doyle, who was unlucky, shortly after not to reduce the gap further when another of his frees came of the post. From the 35th minute onwards it was all Meath Hill and the game was over as a contest even before their goal in the 53rd minute. Dunshaughlin will learn from this first round game and will be ready to go again in two weeks with a home game and more players available.
