The shortage of referees again raised its head at county committee level with fixtures secretary Damien Griffin stating at Monday's Co Board meeting that 68 referees would be needed for the start of the championship if clubs wanted linesmen for senior and intermediate football matches.

Twenty four would be needed for senior matches, 27 for intermediate, nine for junior ties, and eight for Premier matches.

Griffin said it wasn't scaremongering and the problem hadn't gone away.

One of the regulations passed at the meeting concerned clubs supplying referees. Prior to the commencement of the leagues and cups each club must submit to the secretary of the CCC the name of at least one qualified referee who is a member of the club and who is available to referee league and cup games.

Failure to do so shall entail forfeiture of home advantage for all adult league and cup games, including underage. Such games shall be played on the opposing team's ground. In the event of the opposition not having submitted a referee the game will be played at a neutral venue.
