25th Anniversary of historic St. Pats All Ireland win

April 16, 2025

Shane McKeigue becomes the first St. Pats player to lift the Hogan Cup

25 years to the very day the students of St. Patrick's Classical School Navan put their name on the All-Ireland Colleges SFC Cup for the very first time.

Breffni Park on the 16th of April 2000 was the scene of the Navan's schools' finest moment.

Colm O'Rourke and Tommy Diver

Managed by former student Colm O'Rourke along with Tommy Diver St Pats Armagh were beaten 0-11 to 1-6.

The Meath legend was delighted after the game. "No Meath team had previously won the All Ireland colleges title apart from Gormanston. No team comprising entirely of Meath lads had succeeded until today. So it is great to set that record straight. We could have won by five or six points. Overall we served up the better football and our backs were superb. It was heart stopping stuff at the end but we deservedly held out."

Corner forward Ivan McCormack finished as the teams top scorer, having accumulated 1-27 in the six game.

It was a day of contrasting emotions over in Tullamore for members of the Kenny and McKeigue households in Navan. While Shane (McKeigue) and Ronan (Kenny) enjoyed the desired result in Breffni Park their older brothers Niall (McKeigue) and Seamus (Kenny) weren't as fortunate when experiencing defeat along with their Under 21 team mates in the Leinster final against neighbours Westmeath.
