Leitrim stunned Mayo in the third round of the Connacht U20 football championship last night by recording a 3-12 to 0-16 victory over them in Ballinamore.
Paul Honeyman led the way for the hosts by notching 0-10 over the hour and played a key role in two of the goals, including their first which saw the full-forward slip in Ben Guckian to rattle Mayo’s net after nine minutes.
Tom O’Flaherty and Niall Hurley got points back for the Westerners to level matters but Honeyman’s points helped Leitrim towards a 1-6 to 0-8 lead at the break, and they’d hit the jackpot again early in the second-half via Paul Moran’s goal.
Four minutes later, Jack Casey would hammer home a third goal for Andy Moran’s men as they went on to claim a sweet five-point win.

In Tuam Stadium, Galway scored a 2-16 to 2-12 victory over holders Sligo.
Having trailed by 1-4 to 0-4 after 15 minutes thanks to Conor Walsh’s goal, majors from Conor Heneghan and Colm Costello saw the Tribesmen surge into a 2-12 to 1-6 lead early in the second-half and they wouldn’t look back from there.
