Mayo star Oisín Mullin is set to join AFL side Geelong Cats on a two-year contract as an international rookie.

The42.ie reports that the Kilmaine clubman is expected to travel out to Australia later this month, with Geelong set to confirm the signing in the coming days.

Mullin has been linked with a move Down Under for the past two years now, having attended a combine in DCU in 2019 after which he was subsequently part of a group of players which were invited to Melbourne for further trials and club visits. Frank Irwin (Mayo), Ultan Kelm (Fermanagh) and Cillian Rouine (Clare) had also been due to travel only for the trip to be cancelled due to Covid.

Mullin, who was recently nominated for Young Footballer of the Year and an All-Star, missed Mayo’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final victory over Dublin but started in the final against Tyrone in September.

Should the 21-year-old make the move Down Under, he would be a huge loss to the Connacht champions having quickly established himself as a key player after making his senior debut last year.
