The Louth ladies footballers’ Leinster Intermediate Championship Round 3 game against Westmeath has been brought forward to Saturday to avoid a clash with the men’s Leinster final against Dublin at Croke Park on Sunday.

The ladies game was due to be a home fixture for the Wee County on Sunday, but will now take place at the neutral venue of Ballinlough in Co. Meath on Saturday at 5pm. After their surprise defeat to Offaly last Sunday, Kit Henry’s side need to win to have a chance of progressing to the semi-finals.

“Westmeath were very accommodating with this request and although it was meant to be a home game, we accept that a halfway house is a fair compromise in this instance,” a Louth LGFA statement read.

“We realised that this (fixture clash) was putting a lot of people under pressure, including the players who want to go and support their male colleagues and rightly so as do we all.

“We also thank the Ballinlough GAA club for facilitating this fixture as well as Leinster Council, and we encourage a good travelling support to go along for what promises to be a very important game.”
