St Fechins and Cooley Kickhams will meet in the Intermediate Championship Final on Sunday next after the former came out on top against Hunterstown Rovers, while the latter edged home against Kilkerley Emmets.

St Fechins turned in a dominant display as they proved too strong for Hunterstown Rovers at Ardee before eventually coming out on top with a 1-23 to 1-11 victory.

The Termonfeckin outfit started on the front foot and points from Joe Corrigan and Niall Devlin either side of a Ryan Burns free gave them the early advantage. However, Rovers hit the front in the third minute when Burns scored the first goal of the game.

St Fechins settled into the game again and points from Colm O’Neill and Ryan Walsh point saw them restore the lead at 0-6 to 1-2.

They then reeled off four points with the help of scores from Paul Matthews and Jamie McDonnell, before Paul Carrie and Burns replied. However, Walsh and Adam O’Neill scores saw the Fechins lead by 0-13 to 1-5 at the break.

Ryan Ward kicked the first point of the second half to give Rovers hope but that was soon extinguished when Fechins kicked on and were 0-19 to 1-8 ahead at the water break. The result was never in doubt after that and the winners sealed an impressive performance with a goal from Eoghan Duffy.

Meanwhile, Cooley Kickhams came through against Kilkerley Emmets on Saturday evening at Clan na Gael Park.

Cian Connor was the hero for the peninsula side as his late score decided a game that had been on a knife-edge for much of the hour.

It was Kilkerley who got off to a flying start when an early point was followed by a Daniel McKeown goal. They maintained that gap for much of the first quarter before Fergal Malone found the net for Cooley to reduce the deficit to one point.

Just before the interval Enda O’Neill struck a second goal but the Emmets responded well with the last two points of the half to send the teams in level at 2-4 to 1-7.

It was point for point for much of a dramatic second half and while both teams had chances to win, in the end it was Connor’s late point that won it for Cooley.
