Naomh Fionnbarra club notes & St Annes Camogie club notes

February 18, 2021

The 63rd AGM of Naomh Fionnbarra G.F.C. and St. Anne's Camogie Club was held virtually online for the first time on Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 17th February at 8.00pm. The meeting was well attended from all sectors of the club. Colm Markey the outgoing Chairman thanked all those who helped the club throughout the year in all aspects of the club including players, supporters, mentors, committee members and anyone who volunteered their time towards club activity especially Covid 19 Officers in what was a challenging year. He also thanked anyone who provided sponsorship to the club over the course of the year including main club sponsors Oxigen Environmental and O'Neills Bakery and other businesses who have sponsored pitch signage.

Colm extended his congratulations to St. Anne's who made the County Shield Final and the Ladies Intermediate team who reached the Intermediate Championship Final for the second year in a row losing narrowly to Clan na Gael.  A massive accolade goes to the players and management of the Senior team who won the Louth Junior Championship Final, bringing the Christy Bellew Cup back to Togher.  Colm also extended his sympathy for those we have lost in our Community over the course of the last year.  At county level, the development of the new county grounds and the new Louth manager Mickey Harte, hail an exciting new chapter for Louth GAA.  Colm has vacated his position after 6 successful years as Chairman which included the following; establishment of the new executive committee, purchase of the additional club land, development of the new training field and club facilities, fundraising events such as Lip Sync and Strictly Come Dancing.  The club would like to thank Colm for his hard work over the last years and wish him well as he embarks on his new political role as a MEP in the European Parliament.

Thomas McQuillan and Nicola Connor gave detailed secretary and treasurer reports. Thomas stepped down as secretary after a period of 13 years and the club would also like to thank him for his sterling service over the past 13 years and in all over the past 49 years where he has held many different volunteer positions.  The Juvenile report read by Chairman Seamus Cosgrove highlighted a great year for the club while Peter Callan and Joe O'Reilly provided updates in relation to Finance & Development. The ladies Chairperson, Marie Doyle, read a comprehensive report on the ladies club. John Duffy gave a detailed report of St. Anne's year.

The Senior men's team, proudly sponsored by Oxigen Environmental, had a great year as they won as they won the Louth Junior Championship and brought the Christy Bellew Cu back to the parish for the 3rd time in 10 years.  The adult men's teams will play in the Intermediate Championship, in the Division 2 League, in the Paddy Sheelan Cup and in the Division 5 League in 2021. Thanks to team manager Brendan Healy, Coach Alaric Costigan, selector Gerry Leonard, Covid Officer Dermot O'Neill, team physios Eoghan O'Neill and Michelle McCourt, kit man and grounds man Peter Callan, Angela O'Neill who looks after the laundry, those who acted as gatemen, umpires, linesmen, all members of the Senior Committee who worked hard during the year and all supporters of the Club.  The club look forward to working with Brendan, Alaric & Gerry for the 2021 season.

The juvenile section of the club catered for age groups from U-7 to U-18. It was a challenging year due to the Covid 19 Pandemic and this made it all the more enjoyable when the children did get onto the playing field.  2020 was quite a progressive year as all players developed their potential further. There is great potential amongst many of the players within juvenile section and hopefully they can progress in the coming years to the senior ranks of the Men's, Ladies and Camogie teams. Thanks to club Chairman Seamus Cosgrove, secretary Kate Hand, all of the Committee and all juvenile mentors for their hard work during the year.

On the day they were unlucky to be narrowly beaten after a great comeback by the girls by Clan na Gael.  The ladies thanked their management team from last year, Alan McMahon, Stuart Reynolds and Andrew Rogers for their hard work and commitment and look forward to working with them in 2021.

During the first lockdown in May each Ladies player pledged to run 100km as a fundraiser for the ICU in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where teammate Marianne Hullen and 4 other nurses from the parish work.  A total of €6,330 was raised and will go towards the development of a family room.  Thanks to all who supported such a worthy cause.

St. Annes camogie club made great progress this year especially at under age levels where the strength of the young girls coming through should really boost the senior panel for 2020. The club also fielded with a full senior team in all Senior League and Championship games this year.  It is particularly heart warming to see a number of young players joining the Senior team along with the return of others and this mix of youth and experience interacted seamlessly.  Thanks to team coach Marcu Dennehy, sponsors Connect Credit Union, Mooney Clothing, Colin Dunne Engineering, IFM, Kernel Construction, Emer Connor & Joe Kennedy, all members of the Committee  and wider support group who worked hard during the year.
