The GAA has published a new three-year Communications Plan to cover the period 2023-2026 as part of its overall organisational strategy ‘Aontas 2026 – Towards One GAA For All.’

The plan identified four themes – Better Connections with GAA Membership and Community; More Strategic and Proactive Communications; Greater Clarity as to who is telling the GAA Story and Modernising Media Engagement – as part of its engagement process.

Three action areas have emerged to address these themes; Deepen the Connection between the GAA and its Membership and Wider Community; Enhance and Continue to Promote the Reputation of the GAA; Tell the Story of the GAA in New and Better Ways.

The area of Communications was one of the six pillars of ‘Aontas’ and the timelines for both plans run concurrently.

Uachtarán CLG Larry McCarthy said: “I welcome the publication of a new communications plan for the Association, a plan that, on implementation, will benefit our clubs our counties, our provinces, and the organisation as a whole.

“Effective communication lies at the heart of any efficient and well-functioning organisation. It runs through every strand of the GAA and has done since our earliest days. It does not belong to one office holder or one department – its importance lies in its impact on how we organise our games and our activities and the image we project of the GAA.

“The purpose of the plan was to review how we are currently set up; to clearly define the challenges and obstacles and to ensure that the GAA communications strategy reflects the cutting edge, volunteer-led, amateur sport organisation that we are.”

GAA Director of Communications Alan Milton added: “The events and challenges of recent years laid bare the importance of effective communications and challenged the GAA in many ways, including in that same area.

“It provided a reboot of sorts but also underlined the need to ensure our approach to communicating with our members and the wider public continues to evolve to fully meet our needs.

“The research findings reaffirm the growth of digital and the very real need for us to remain connected to the wider membership.

“They also underline the importance of proactive, strategic and timely communications with a particular emphasis on catering for the different groupings with the Gaelic games family, not least our young members.”
