Carrick are Leitrim senior hurling champions for the third year running after edging out rivals Cluainín Iomáint by 1-18 to 2-13 in Drumshambo this afternoon.
In what was the ninth consecutive SHC final meeting between these sides, the holders were able to see out the victory with a point from marksman Chris Flanagan in the fifth minute of injury-time after late pressure from their opponents.
Carrick had built up a 0-10 to 0-5 lead by the halfway stage and the opening minute of the second-half saw them hammer in the game’s first goal via Conor Beirne.
Cluainín Iomáint would recover from the blow with a couple of Dylan Mc Dermott points before the same player smashed to Carrick’s net in the 40th minute.
Gary Hickey’s goal eight minute later made it a two-point game and, after falling four behind again, a couple of Gavin O’Hagan frees had the trailers deficit down to one ahead of Flanagan providing the insurance point at the death.
