Cluainín Iomáint are Leitrim senior hurling champions

Cluainín Iomáint became Leitrim senior hurling champions for the first time since 2016 this afternoon by edging out Carrick on a 0-14 to 1-10 score-line in Ballinamore.

Beaten in the last four county finals by their opponents today, the Glencar/Manorhamilton men gained some sweet revenge in this one-point victory which marks a fourth overall success for the club.

The sides couldn’t be separated at the end of a low-scoring first-half, which finished 0-5 apiece, and after the restart Cluainín Iomáint took a foothold as points from Martin Feeney and Gavin O’Hagan (free) helped them go five in front.

A couple of Brendan Delaney frees narrowed the deficit back down to two for the holders but their opponents pulled away again with O’Hagan’s frees on point and another from James Rooney provided them with the insurance in injury-time.

Not even a late Carrick goal from Colm Moreton could spoil the party for the Glencar/Manor lads as there were joyous scenes at the final whistle at the Sean O’Heslins club grounds.
