Laura Kearns, daughter of the late inter-county football manager Liam, is partaking in a fundraising abseil in his memory next month.
Laura is taking part in the Heart of Heroes Challenge to raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation as a tribute to her father, whose death from a heart attack in March 2023 was greeted with shock and sadness across the GAA world. Aged 61, Liam was one of Gaelic football's most respected managers who was in charge of Offaly at the time, having had spells over Limerick, Laois and Tipperary before that.
“My lovely dad passed away suddenly at the age of 61 from a heart attack, leaving behind a huge void in our family,” Laura said.
“He was active, healthy, and lived life to the full every day. Above all else, he was a dedicated family man who is dearly missed and remembered.
“My dad had no symptoms of heart disease prior to his untimely death, which highlights a need for further heart screening and awareness campaigns.”
The Heart Heroes Abseil Challenge 2024 is taking place at the Generator's Skyview Tower in Smithfield Square, Dublin 7 on Saturday, November 2.
