Cork great Brid Stack says that the new 40-metre two-point arc needs to be brought in “a little bit closer” in order to be effective in ladies football.

The new rule for a two-pointer in the ladies game was introduced at the start of this season but has not become a mainstay in the same way which it has in the men’s game.

Speaking on The Sunday Game after yesterday’s All-Ireland ladies SFC final which saw Galway defeating Kerry by a point, Stack said that the two-pointer “isn’t a threat at this point in the ladies game”.

"The LGFA have been fantastic in adapting and seeing what the new rules have done for the men's game, (it) has been innovative," stated the 11-time All-Ireland winner.

"Obviously it's in its first year and there are going to be tweaks. There's obviously going to be a review again after this year but the two-point threat isn't a threat at this point in the ladies game. I'd say we've probably seen six or seven in the championship so it's not a massive threat.

"We need to bring it in a little bit closer and then it becomes a real threat. Then you have a real defensive effort in your mind. You know, are you pushing out or there's that little pocket of space. Whereas Galway were pushing out today and there wasn't that threat. But Kerry still didn't have the ability to pop it in and over the D and find that little pocket of space."

She added: "It's definitely something that I think will be reviewed and something that I think, down the line, there are such fantastic kickers in our game that would be very capable if it was just moved in closer to the D.”
