Nine-time All-Ireland champions Ballyhale Shamrocks are out of the Kilkenny senior hurling championship after falling to a 0-21 to 1-16 defeat at the hands of Thomastown this afternoon.
The All-Ireland intermediate champions held a seven-point lead in the second-half thanks to the points of Robbie Donnelly and Colm Treacy before Colin Fennelly’s goal brought the Shamrocks right back into contention.
Ballyhale would narrow their deficit down to a point but Donnelly’s frees steadied the ship for Thomastown and they held on for a three-point victory which sees them into the last four of the Tom Walsh Cup race.
