Galway captured their first Leinster minor hurling championship title on Friday evening thanks to a 2-20 to 0-14 victory over Kilkenny in Portlaoise.
In what was the second meeting between these sides in the eastern province this year, Jason Rabbitte and Brian Callanan fired in the goals that saw the Tribesmen cruising to another win against the Cats.
Rabbitte’s goal and the points of the excellent Aaron Niland, who finished with 0-11, sent the would-be winners towards a commanding 1-10 to 0-6 half-time lead.
Points from Conor Doyle helped the Cats narrow their deficit down to five, but Callan’s goal with six minutes to go settled the issue for the lads in maroon as captain Sean Murphy collected the Hanrahan Cup on his county’s behalf.
Galway now get set to meet Cork in the All-Ireland semi-finals next weekend, with Kilkenny up against Clare in the other last four encounter.
