Jack McKevitt was the hero as Kildare snatched a late victory over Down to book their place in the All-Ireland U20 football championship final next Saturday.

It finished 1-11 to 2-7 at Parnell Park, where extra time looked set for both teams until McKevitt sailed over in the fourth minute of injury-time to break Down hearts.

An airtight encounter in the capital saw the Mourne lads leading at half-time (1-4 to 0-4) thanks to Jason Morgan’s goal, but the Lilywhites got a goal of their own through Oisin O’Sullivan early in the second-half to hit the front.

There’d be little to separate the sides from there but, in the end, it was McKevitt that came up trumps for Kildare with this strike (watch it below) to book their final berth alongside Sligo at Kingspan Breffni (2.45pm) in a week’s time.
