Naas CBS and Mercy Mounthawk are just 60 minutes away from the Hogan Cup final following their respective Br Bosco Cup and Corn Uí Mhuirí triumphs yesterday.

Tom Kelly was the star of the show as Naas CBS found an extra gear in the closing stages of their Leinster Post Primary Schools Senior Football ‘A’ Championship final against Coláiste Choilm, Tullamore at Donaghmore/Ashbourne to complete a three-in-a-row.

Trailing by 0-4 to 0-7 at the break, first-time finalists Coláiste Choilm fought back to level at 0-9 apiece with 11 minutes of normal time remaining. But crucially, they couldn’t get their noses in front and the champions finished with a flourish to win 1-12 to 0-10. Daire Gilmartin and Kelly (free) kicked points before a long ball in from Gilmartin was finished to the net by wing back Rob Murray in the 59th minute to seal Naas’ win.

History was made at Austin Stack Park when Mercy Mounthawk claimed their first Munster Post Primary Schools Senior Football ‘A’ Championship with a 0-15 to 1-9 victory over local rivals Tralee CBS.

Mercy Mounthawk led by six points at half-time, but Tralee CBS were back on level terms by the 53rd minute thanks to Ronan Carroll’s goal from a penalty. However, late points from Tomas Kennedy, Paddy Lane and Ben Murphy secured Mercy Mounthawk’s maiden title.
