Eoin Kennedy (Dublin) dashed Westmeath’s Robbie McCarthy’s five in-a-row dreams to claim his 10th Softball Singles All-Ireland title in what was the last ever Singles final to be played in the old centre at Croke Park today.

It was the 11th consecutive final between these two great rivals and McCarthy had held the upper hand in seven of those encounters.

But, on this occasion, 40-year-old Kennedy from the St Brigid’s club rolled back the years to upset the odds with a 21-20, 21-18 success.

Earlier in the day, Martina McMahon (Limerick) retained her Softball Singles title, defeating Cork’s Catriona Casey 21-12, 21-9.

Kilkenny’s Kyle Dunne was also celebrating after he defeated Monaghan’s Eoghan McGinnity 14-21, 21-13, 21-18 in the All-Ireland Minor Softball Singles final.
