Galway manager Padraic Joyce hailed the “phenomenal scoring” performance of in-form wing forward Matthew Tierney in yesterday’s Connacht SFC final.
In a game which saw the Tribesmen’s ace attacker Shane Walsh withdrawn after 41 minutes, Tierney stepped up to the plate to fire 2-7 against Sligo in Castlebar and help his county towards a second provincial crown in as many years.
"I constantly tell him he should be kicking 1-3 or 1-4, but 2-7 was phenomenal scoring," Joyce said of Tierney when speaking to RTE Sport afterwards.
"He could have had a third goal when he punched the ball over the bar. He's been one of our standout performers so far.
"But I always tell these fellas that get these individual accolades that they should get it again in two weeks."
