The Galway senior hurling championship has been thrown into disarray following Gort’s decision to withdraw from tomorrow’s rescheduled semi-final against holders St Thomas.

The last four clash was meant to be played last Sunday but a Covid outbreak within the Gort squad last Friday saw the original date fall by the wayside and the game was re-fixed for tomorrow at 12 noon in Athenry.

Galway county board were informed by Gort today that they would not be fulfilling tomorrow’s fixture at Kenny Park, with the club appealing to its supporters not to travel to the game and confirming that refunds on tickets would be made during the week.

“Gort GAA club have informed Galway GAA that they will not be fulfilling their senior hurling championship semi-final v St Thomas’ tomorrow,” the statement from Galway GAA read.

“Galway GAA CCC have reviewed all the evidence presented and have advised that the fixture stands. Failure to fulfil the fixture will be dealt with by Galway GAA CCC in the coming days.”

Clarinbridge are already through to the competition’s final, which is down for decision next Sunday, November 21st, with St Thomas now their opponents although Gort are likely to launch an appeal.
