Galway manager Shane O'Neill is delighted with the competition within the squad following his side's 30-point hammering of Westmeath.

The Tribesmen couldn't have got off to a better start to the 2021 season, putting up 5-34 in the Allianz League opener at TEG Cusack Park yesterday. They will face a much stiffer test against All-Ireland and league champions Limerick in Salthill next Sunday.

"Delighted obviously with the score, the majority of the performance," the Limerick native told TG4 after the match.

"The first quarter we were a bit rusty and a bit anxious and we showed a lack of composure.

"The players were just anxious to get on the pitch and start playing games very quickly to release those cobwebs.

"The boys that came in continued to try and do the right thing and it really showed we are beginning to create that competitive squad which we have been trying to do since we came onboard last year."
