Replying To A_Chairde:  "Exactly , Who could begrudge the Gaels finally getting their hands on the Cup after the heartbreak of losing three in a row. Castletown , Raharney and Clonkill have shared the title since Pollard won it in 05. Its good to see the dominance of the usual suspects broken."
Good to see the gaels get over the line. It was a poor match but they wont mind. Still think Castletown are the best club side when they have all their players fit. Too many injuries this year. Its still going to be a 3 way split for at least a couple of more seasons ie one of Gaels, Raharney or Castletown.

Thats the rumours i am hearing. I think its a bad move as the senior B and Intermediate in my opinion are improving standards and crowds.I think Plunketts are well fit to stay up next year and maybe rattle a few cages.

They need to leave it as it is, works perfectly fine.

Not a good post from my position. Wins for LLG Plunket's and Turin is a major positive from any hurling standpoint. Hard to know why anyone could benefits from a negative prospective.Your outlook has the same old cheerleaders

Lost the dressing room. That's normally the only reason for a full clearance of a back room team. Happened with both clubs in Offaly. Unfortunately for Westmeath if this is the case you could have a long road back similar to ourselves

Sadly i have to agree, but and i take no pleasure in this, what is going on at the highest level in the county and to make it even worse no minor manager. On the Iarmhi podcast it was highlighted again. The minor chair and secretary need to inform the clubs what is going on and the same at senior level. Nobody is confronting these good volunteers but this situation is killing Westmeath hurling.

Great weekend for the independent team concept in hurling. Na Piarsaigh have long been the best example in both codes of a proper, well run independent team and the experience of playing in Div 1 at underage over the past ten years or so paid huge dividends at the weekend. 65 years in total since Turin and the Gaels won an adult championship and the likes of Sean Leech, Conor Heffernan, Darragh Smyth, Conor Leech, Peter Finch, Craig Neville, Jack Geoghegan, Ciaran Kiernan, Shane, Ryan and David Williams, Eoin Daly, Jason Malone and Conor McCrossan all came through to adult hurling playing with Na Piarsaigh. The benefits of playing against the strong clubs at underage like Clonkill, Castletown and Raharney are enormous.

I'm not disagreeing with that & fair play to LLG but you can't deny the standard was one of the worst in years. I stand by my comment that hurling is not in a good place in the county. Yes it was great to see Turin & Plunketts win as well but just look at what's going on with our county senior set up, players not willing to commit & we're supposed to be going into year 2 of a rebuilding job. The whole debacle with minor management stepping down & no one in place yet for 2027 as far as i'm aware.

Minor management is the exact same. The footballers at minor, U20 and senior are all planning and on the go the last 3/4 weeks. It's a huge worry with winter a week away and nothing happening on the hurling side bar the 20s.
Lads would nearly be better off staying with the clubs for the league and letting the CBS represent Westmeath at minor at this rate.....

St Marys genuinely more organised and doing more for Westmeath hurling than the county board.

Sadly thats the truth and in contrast they havent got sidetracked with the glory of an All Ireland football win.
Hurling clubs need to wake up to whats happening.

Ditto this, the colour and passion of LLG winning a county final. I seen some of the homecoming scenes online and it looked special

I agree with this statement in some ways.
To me LLG winning the championship will give both them and others a lift to break the duck of Castletown, Clonkill and Raharney and in that way it is good for the FUTURE of Westmeath Hurling.
However I also feel the fact they limped over the line against a misfiring 14 man Raharney team who must have had 20 wides is a sign that the standard has dropped rather than the Gaels have risen.
In terms of the Leinster Club championship you wouldn't have the hope you might have had in other years from looking at the county final.
As was with the county team this year I believe there was a clear drop in standard in the club championship. Hopefully it is just a transition period but as a lot of comments have alluded to we are a mess at board level in terms of hurling
