Replying To Viking66: "Saw some close games over the weekend, plenty of effort, although quality was a little lacking. Will watch the Davidstown v Askamore game sometime today, seemingly the game of the weekend but I didnt get to see it. Cant say any forwards really stood out in the games I saw, although it struck me there were a large number of frees which didnt help the games flow at all." A constant problem in Wexford hurling. Look how the second KK semi final was reffed and then watch our second semi final. its a constant issue.

If at the start of the year someone said to you that Eoghan Nolan would be in the running for full forward on the team of the year - you might have said he was talking about Football. At this rate he will make both along with Barry O'Connor.

I think Rathnure should beat Shels, feel like Shels are a bit reliant on Banville upfront, Eoghan Nolan brings a goal threat alright but think Rathnure back should be able to get on top
Shels probably stronger at the back than in attack but think Rathnure have more about them in attack
Thought Gorey were disappointing yesterday, had a good first 20 minutes but were second best from there on in
They flatter to deceive a bit, have good hurlers and have decent enough size but don't think they're the fittest group going and I thought their forwards were struggling to win their own ball
As for the Martin's, they're still a good team but you don't just lose someone like Rory O'Connor and continue as if nothing had ever happened, they've good depth and the tail of their team is strong as is their bench but even at that, the gap between whoever came in for him and Rory is fairly stark (Same goes for nearly any club team not named Ballygunner who have a lost a player of Rory's calibre)
Martin's also had a few injuries as well tbf to them, at least they've a football final to look forward to

I wrote a pretty comprehensive review (and maybe critical) of semi finals but they were not published.
I do think it will be good final - Shels are a very decent team. They handle the ball very well and move it through the lines well. Eoghan Kehoe is goal threat and Sean Keane Carroll was superb yesterday. However I think Rathnure have the better panel and have subs to bring on that may turn the game. Conor O'Neill did a superb job on Barry O'Connor yesterday which prob surprised a lot of people that Rathnure would chance one of their smaller lighter players. Gorey were very one dimensional. Martins still a superb team and maybe Rathnure got the bit of luck this time around that they didn't get in the county final.

Think a big problem for Gorey looking back at it is that they had a good crop of underage players coming through in the early-to-mid 2010s and they helped them to go from Intermediate A to winning Senior and they got in some good young players (Won Premier Minor for the first time in 2020, think) which helped keep the team fresh and they then won in 2023
But outside of Jamie Kennedy coming in this year, no-one else has come through in the meantime and some of their core have now gotten old

Mac is just turned 31, the 3 Molloys are in their 20s, and apart from Cathal Dunbar who is just turned 30, so are Jack Cullen, Jack Doran, Cian OTuama, Charlie Mcguckin, JJ Twalmey, Cian Browne, Brian Cushe, Sean Doyle, Aodhan Doyle and Cathal Stokes. Most are in their peak years, 25-29, with none 30 yet apart from Dunbar and Mac . Most are closer to 25 than 30. Along with Kennedy who isnt even 20 yet they were their starting 15 against Oylegate in the QF, save Eoin Molloy who came on as a sub. Most of them have played intercounty for Wexford at some level too. They should be doing better as a team than they are, but maybe they are happy enough with their lives. Its up to themselves as players to work out how far they want to go in hurling and football, and how fit they want to get.

Their stance towards football is strange considering its a fast growing town with a LOT of blow-ins from football backgrounds that don't appear to have the pathway to be given a chance to play.
Was just thinking today, is this the first time that we have two unique senior finals, as in neither of the four have met each other in a final before? Must be close

I d add they are prob missing a leader or leaders to drive them on and out of their comfort Zone . They may feel they are going hard at it but they possibly need someone to tell them a few home truths . I d imagine there are some fairly vocal and strong characters within that group who may push back and the cycle will continue . Most people look at them and say they are nt fit . They are fit but not fit enough for 60min plus by look of it . Maybe getting timing wrong or wrong type of prep who knows only themselves. Prob all could do with dropping a few kilos of mass to start to improve speed/mobility first. .

Of course they are fit, but they arent as fit as the other top clubs in Wexford. Or Leinster either.
