Replying To Galwayman67420:  "Is the tide turning in regards to the home of Galway football? Is it time to relocate the centre of excellence to somewhere in the city/west of the county?
Minor A winners - west board team (2 of them in final)
Minor A shield winners - west board team ( hammered Tuam "the home of football" in the final)
Minor B winners - west board team
Minor B shield west board team
Under 19 A - oranmore will win again by the looks of it
Under 19 B - breathnachs also look to be too strong for the competition in B I believe they probably should be in A but that's besides the point.

Really shows how there is huge work being done back west underage and it's paying off."
A very valid point there. Will be interesting to see how the senior team shapes up now the North Board High King has been dethroned.

Obviously there are good players from all parts Galway and the bigger population is with 10-15 miles of city ,, but on most if not all Galway 9 senior all Ireland's the north board would have definitely I'd say produce the most forwards , even last : 2 one 98 and 01 u had Donnellan , Fallon savage Padraig and Tommy Joyce Joe Bergen shay Walsh ,, not sure whst it is but most successful all Ireland winning senior teams have north Galway forwards ,

Replying To 6speed:  "As the topic of moycullen and transfers/backroom teams is brought up again, for some context:

From what I've heard Caroline currid is married to a friend of someone involved with Moycullen and did 2 sessions as a favour, absolutely in no way "part of the back room team"

Owen Gallagher played under Don Connellan for NUIG in sigerson in a team that had many moycullen players so it would make sense he'd want to play for Moycullen with that familiarity.

Niall Walsh is a guard that worked closely under Don Connellan, so again would make sense he'd want to play under someone he knows well. Exact same can be said for Tom Clarke.

Now in fairness I haven't heard anything about the goalkeeper and maloney. Eire98 was mentioning an O'Reilly recently as a transfer, and if that's Michael o Reilly (who hasn't played in 2 years due to emigrating), well the lad is born and raised in moycullen.

I can imagine any coaches or backroom team members are probably being compensated. But it's dishonest to make it out like moycullen are scouting for players and coaches. Look at it from those coaches point of view.

Over the past few years the 3 kelly brothers, Dessie Conneely, Neil mulcahy, Gerard Davoren, James mcloughlin, Peter Cooke, Sean o Connor, Fionn McDonagh, Owen Gallagher have all been involved in a Galway senior panel. I've also heard Conor Corcoran was in training and not forgetting David wynne who's as influential as ever for moycullen that was involved years ago. Thats a generational crop to come through.

Of those 13 players listed above only one of them isn't from Moycullen (Gallagher). So those coaches are looking at the appeal of a squad with 11-12 intercounty or thereabouts standard players. Not to mention it looks better on their CV being successful with a club that isn't one of the traditional powerhouses of Galway football."
I agree with this.

I'm married in Moycullen, moved there few years ago with my wife and it's mad to think lads who have been there longer than me are being talked about on this forum.

To start, I think Tom Clarke is a "real Moycullen" lad, as in his grandparents were from there.

Gallagher and Walsh are always around the village , they live in a housing estate there for about 10 years and would be very integrated.

Finally, I would agree the home grown talent is next level. You're looking at the likes of Fionn McDonagh, Ger Davoren, Dessie Connelly, Peter Cooke, Sean o connor, Sean kelly, paul kelly, conor corcoran - all are definitely playing on a level that is inter county, starting panel level. They're all shooting 2 pointers. David Wynne and Eoin kelly are serious defenders. Eoin has saved more goals than their goalie.

Best of luck to them all this weekend.

The Galway team won as a team, not as a set of forwards. Yes there were excellent forwards on the 98 and 01 teams but they were well supplied and supported from midfield and the backs. Seán Óg scored the insurance point against Kildare and I doubt if Galway would have won without those great players at the back and Kevin Walsh at midfield. One of the best team scores in Croke Park, 2000, was the one scored by Declan Meehan - a wonder pass from his friend, the late Paul Clancy. They had that All Ireland won against Kerry if a certain forward had passed the ball to PJ who was in a better position. Kevin Walsh wasn't fit for the replay.

Not sure what that has to do with outside players playing for their senior footballers though."
I was reflecting on MC in the past and the huge changes that have taken place - population growth, better transport and movement of people.
What are the rules re outside players and outside managers, some coming from outside the province?
It looks like there are rules but very little implementation. I don't think it's fair to single out MC, it has been happening in many counties for a good number of years.

When I was playing I'm pretty sure if you moved in from another county you could play with any club in that county that you wanted to. There was no requirement to be based in the parish of that club etc. so long as you were residing in the county.
This may have changed though I'm not sure.

Indeed they have. All the more reason why they should be even less reliant on outside players. Maigh Cuilinn have brought through some brilliant players over the past decade up from underage, many of whom have represented Galway.
There is no other club in Galway that has had at least a third of their starting 15 be from other counties in the past few years, so they're hardly being singled out from a batch of clubs doing similar.
Dublin is the only area where it happens regularly and they are city clubs without parish boundaries.
The rules are that you pick from within your parish boundary or players who were in the parish and started with the club. There are some rare exceptions, but that's the general rule.
Someone moving into an area and transferring is absolutely fine, but that wasn't the case with a number of the players in question. Nobody's questioning movement of people, so I'm not sure why you're bringing that up. The issue is the movement of certain players wasn't to Maigh Cuilinn, but to the city, but they played for Maigh Cuilinn.
They're free to do what they want, but you can't complain if it doesn't sit right with some people.

We moved to Moycullen in 2008 our 3 eldest children went to school locally and within a year they were all about the football team and the county and all ireland club championship ( they knew nothing about intermediate or senior )a couple of years later it was hurling, so when 2020 arrived it was their dreamland. They now wonder why there is so much bad feeling being directed towards the lads they knew from down at the pitch or in the local shops.Attitudes seem to to have become very bitter since we moved at the end of 2023 south to Co Tipperary, they are young adults now but they still talk about the welcome and inclusion that Moyculen offered so maybe that's the reason players gravitate towards them, pre 2020 no medal hunters would even consider them. We hope to be in Pearse Stadium as often as possible to add some positive feelings towards Galway GAA.We moved on but can never leave.

Its within the rules and those lads have very solid connections with Moycullen through work and friends.

Annaghdown 0-08 Moycullen 4-26 maybe you can see now why people (myself included) was already talking about Moycullen in the final.

Some great 2 pointers from salthill, point up at half time.

As an aside it would be an idea to maybe have a kid free zone at some of these games.
Its hard to enjoy a game when theres hordes of youngsters running around everywhere shouting and roaring not paying a blind bit of notice to the match.

Damo off injured is a big disappointment. Showed glimpses of class today again. Hopefully not too serious. Anyone have an update?

Salthill-Knocknacarra fall over the line in the other semi-final. Best team won Salthill-Knocknacarra with the better work rate especially Magic Thompson.

He was very good today, although I fear for them against Maigh Cuillin in the final who look a class apart.

I predicted either SK or corofin to beat moycullen in the final but after today? I may change my mind.
Both of them looked scrappy, and Corofin could have won on another day,,the only consolation for SK is you can't read into a 30 point win for Moycullen.

I was at both games today, and after that hammering, it's hard to believe Annaghdown are one of the top four teams in Galway. But that's the reality of the growing gap between the top teams and the rest, and that gap seems to be getting bigger every year. It also says a lot about the standard of the teams Annaghdown beat to reach the semi-finals. How poor were they.

Moycullen were absolutely phenomenal. Their work rate, creativity, accuracy, movement and overall style of play were a joy to watch. They were utterly ruthless from start to finish, and the quality they have throughout the team is frightening.

Salthill-Knocknacarra against Corofin, on the other hand, was a fairly average game to watch. Corofin have gone backwards considerably over the last two years, particularly in how they play their football. Today, they seemed obsessed with taking the safe, conservative option. They had numerous opportunities in both halves to take on two-pointers, but instead kept recycling it back and forth across the pitch and achieving very little.

I'm genuinely surprised to see Corofin playing this brand of football. By their own high standards, they've been very poorly coached over the last two seasons. I don't know who's responsible for the coaching since Gary came in, but whoever is overseeing it needs to have a serious re-think. The football they're playing is shockingly average to watch by Corofin standards, and it's a million miles away from the positive, attacking football that made them such a brilliant team for so many years.

Today was the first time this championship that Corofin came up against opposition of a similar standard, and they lost. And probably just as well, because playing the way they currently do, Moycullen would have absolutely torn them apart.

That safe, boring, conservative football just isn't the Corofin way, and I find it hard to understand why they've gone down that road. For a club with their tradition, standards and resources, what we've seen this year and last simply isn't good enough. In my opinion, they badly need a change in their coaching setup.

As for Moycullen, it's very hard to see past them after today. They've class all over the pitch, tremendous work rate, a brilliant attacking style and serious depth coming off the bench.

Moycullen to win it out.

I've tipped Moycullen to win the county and provincial title from a long way out nothing I've seen since to change my mind.

A lot of quality players on show in senior for Fitzmaurice today, but one performance over the weekend won't be talked about too much but hopefully doesn't go unnoticed that was Ciaran O Donnell for Headford in the Junior final. Galway have a serious talent on their hands.
