There was nothing fancy or lightweight about their effort on Saturday. A bit of experience and big-match knowhow probably cost them; e.g. Jack Mullen came on as a second half sub and quickly scored 1-1 but went for a couple of more pointed efforts when the more percentage option was to work the ball into a better position. They also had to contend with injuries to starting defenders. Only for Damien Comer, who would trouble the best defence, they would have won it in comfort. 'Would have', exactly the kind of talk I referred to. Yes, Jack Mullen scored a great goal, and didnt do a whole pile after the fancy dan celebration. Similar to Lonergan. Contend with injuries? Thats sport. They had lads with Galway underage experience sitting on the bench. If anyone can contend with injuries its Claregalway. Having watched all 4 senior games over the weekend, it was a poor entertainment of football with the exception of Annaghdown and Claregalway. Claregalway will be kicking themselves to throw away that game. Annaghdown will need to bubble wrap Comer for the next 2 weeks to be in with any chance of getting close to Moycullen. Corofin did not look too impressive against Monivea, although they did enough to get over the line. Canney looks to have settled into his new role as goalie, dealt well with the tricky wind throughout. Leonard and Coen very impressive in the forwards and kept the scoreboard ticking. Salthill proved too strong for Oughtarard although Oughtarard managed to still score 1-14, this is something Salthill will have to work on over the next 2 weeks. Corofin will be looking to see how they can stop Finnerty as he is in top class form. Tomo Culhane still to come back into the action too. Moycullen showed no mercy against Mountbellew, they look very impressive and not afraid to go at teams. Fionn McDonagh was exceptional. Lavelle super on kickouts also. Cant see Annaghdown phasing them too much. For me as an outsider of the 4 semi finalist teams, I'm calling a Moycullen V Corofin County Final. I haven't heard any talk about them. All the talk is about the big 3. Claregalway are a top 8 club in Galway or thereabouts. The odds before the championship reflect that as does where they finished. They're well off the standard of the top contenders and anyone with even a passing knowledge of Galway football would know that. On that note, congrats to Dunkellin. Great to see. They dont even have a pitch. But they have a county medal. Hopefully they keep building and climb the ranks. They have a massive panel to choose from, the manager himself highlighted that when interviewed after the Barna game, so there really can't be any excuses on that front. They've still never got past a senior championship quarter-final. This was the year to do it, everything seemed to be in their favour, and they still couldn't get over the line. I'm not disagreeing with you that they'd be losess however Annaghdown losing Olan Kelly early on would be huge to them, he's been featured on the TOTW 3 times for example.
