Both Westport and Claremorris have been touted as the coming teams in Mayo for a while and that result hasnt changed that other than this was the first time that Claremorris showed they are more than just a team of promise. The Hurleys and Holmes have been ripping it up at underage for a few years. Ben Holmes has all the ability to be a series intercounty full forward and wont be far away from a Mayo senior squad next year. Breaffy impressive today and well worth their six point win over Westport. Belmullet hit five into the Claremorris net and could have added another three. Claremorris very disappointing again. Castlebar v Breaffy Garrymore v Belmullet Two semi finals that could go either way. A year of shocks and the most wide open club championship in a long time. Kobe McDonald is a brilliant raw talent but I think the media hype over-amplifies the actual performances. I would say he has had great moments but Darragh Beirne put in more consistent performances. In my opinion as a neutral, i think Beirne should win it. He performed every game, scored big goals, none bigger than the one in the final. He kicked crucial frees and overall I think he had a better year than Kobe who got much more limelight. If it came down to performances in the Final then Beirne definitely deserves it. Now, do i think they will give it to him?? I think Darragh Beirne should get young player of the year, his contribution in the All-Ireland final was huge, scoring that great goal and scoring 1-3 in total was so significant. He also played a significant part in general play. He also scored a total of 3-18 in the championship. A significant weighting has to be given for his performance in the All-Ireland final. Who was the Mayo player that punched the ball out the field on the 67th minute when Paudie Clifford attempted to pass to a colleague?.
