That's something else. Well he'd be very proud of his two great grand daughters. No wonder they are champions.

Take 2 (does often where I post something but never get published) But yes, can we please talk about something relevant instead of history lessons like the start of our club championships tomorrow night or our Ladies team being in an All-Ireland Final on Sunday

You have to admire a team that goes and gets the job done. Better still Ye were by daft the better team than Kerry on the day. Enjoy the celebrations and hopefully we can build on our own ambitions. A good start would be A win against ye in The Hyde which would be tasty in championship. Ros2013 (Roscommon) - Posts: 676 - 30/07/2026 10:36:31 2688128 Link 0 |

Connacht championship games will probably always remain competitive with Mayo, Roscommon and Galway competing. It's very much a three team championship at this stage. The rest down the levels big time. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1486 - 30/07/2026 12:29:00 2688154 Link 0 |

Roscommon need to look beyond Connacht and The Hyde. There's no great team around today. Kerry were blessed to get to the All Ireland final this year. Roscommon have talented young players. No reason why we couldn't have been climbing the steps last Sunday but have we the ambition to go for it. Fair play to Andy Moran. He set out his stall to win an All Ireland and got there in season 1.

For me. Senior Winner (Padraig Pearses two big injury losses but still a strong 15 and impact subs once they get all players back. I think they'll take Brigids out in the semi-final Runner up (Boyle) 3rd final defeat in 5 years. Dark Horse/Surprise Package Glaveys Relegated Castlerea Intermediate Winner (Tulsk) teams that drop down from Senior usually need to 2 years to bounce back Runner up (Eire OG) more final heartbreak after taking out pre championship favourites Dominic's. Looking back in the year I just feel like we are in the same position we have been for the last 10 years capable of winning connacht and competing in division 1 for a while but after that nothing. Management need to look deep into this and figure out why we can't get our levels of fight hunger intensity up the levels required after connacht. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1424 - 31/07/2026 08:21:15 2688238 Link 1 |

With maybe 30 members of the squad not having won Connacht Senior medals and 10 or 12 of them debutants it was important to beat Mayo and Galway in Connacht. Most of them had done that at underage but had to be done at Senior as well. They were 2 great days!!! Sadly Clones is over riding them in the memory It's 2 mountains climbed. Now to move on to everest..... Seanfan (Roscommon) - Posts: 807 - 31/07/2026 09:05:05 2688241 Link 0 |

Saying it's a history lesson is missing the point. There is an inferiority complex in the county and a lack of ambition despite producing very good footballers which is reflected in the massive effort that goes into beating Galway and Mayo and the woeful record in Croke Park from all county and club teams. People in the past have shown what can be done when you raise standards and ambition, those people didn't hide behind the excuse of a so called small County. Really hoping the ladies can go to Croke Park in confidence and bring an All Ireland back to Roscommon. Best of luck to them all. Best of luck to the ladies Intermediate team. As for the inferiority complex ... the round Robin u17 and u 20 games have shown we can compete with and beat Galway and Mayo. Likewise the 2026 Connacht Senior squad. If we're beating those 2 we must be good. Can we bring that knowledge to the AIs in all 3 grades. Yes, it's true we can't do anything outside of Connacht. We have been in 3 under 20/21 all Ireland finals since 2006 in the same the time Galway has won 3 and Mayo have won 2. Until we start doing something different as a small country, this inferior will keep going on. We have a limited playing pool. We don't have many 6 foot plus players who are also mobile enough for the modern game. I mentioned before a select numbers of players who have the potential to play senior football need to be given additional help (internal scholarship) Also why has club Rossie gone quite. It's okay for bigger large rural county's to access funding from disapora. We have one of best county grounds in the country now, so hopefully the county board realise it's time to focus on player development for the modern game. hontherossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 179 - 31/07/2026 16:12:49 2688306 Link 1 |

We beat the All Ireland champions by 10 points in their home ground so we can't be too far away. Enough of this small playing pool. Roscommon was the same size county in the glorious 40s when we got to three All Ireland finals winning two. Roscommon was the same county in the late 70s when we had a champagne football team that went toe to toe with Kerry's greatest ever team. Brigid's are arguably the best gaa club in Ireland or close to it. I think Roscommon this year over celebrated winning Connacht. That was clearly a mistake but we have a mostly young team. Next year let's focus on being really ambitious like Andy Moran and aiming to win the All Ireland. I don't see why not. There is no great team out there. Congrats to Mayo but they beat a flat and ordinary Kerry team last week. I do think this year is a missed opportunity for Ros but let's go for it next year.

Club Rossie should be chasing the diaspora. Would there be 500 well heeled Rossies around the rest of Ireland and the rest of the World? Would they provide €1,000 per annum each? Seanfan (Roscommon) - Posts: 807 - 01/08/2026 10:12:16 2688358 Link 1 |
