First of all, Andy Moran is after saying at the Banquet the importance of having Paddy Tally and Paul Durcan, outside voices that were able to challenge the Mayo way. Do we need this? I think its clear that we do. And with the reports in the county (Brian McEniff article) that Jim is looking to take the U20'a is similar to the model implemented in Mayo, where they have the same S&C and all those services, alongside Keith Higgins being the 20's manager and a selector with the Seniors. The County is almost broke and the expenditure on the senior management team is already through the roof before taking it some guru 100 miles away. There was a strange randomness to this years Championship, a lack of consistency that made it feel more like a lottery at times, extremely difficult to predict games. It felt like no team could implement any kind of control consistently, which left it wide open." 2 wrongs for me 1- Donegal and Armagh having to travel 4 or 5 hour journeys to play knock out games at verycshort notice. Especially hard on Donegal having to be in Dublin for a 1.15 throw in. Round 3 should be neutral venues. 2 - Monaghan getting 3 home games while Meath got 3 away games. A very sad state of affairs if they are scrapped. Don't tell me it didn't mean anything to Roscommon or Westmeath to pick up provincal crowns. Bar the first round of the all ireland series no team after that has earned a home match. In saying all that donegal can't have any complaints. We had a home game against a very average cork team to get to the quarters and only scored 1.13 and lost by a point. It was a very poor day at office and in truth that was donegal done for the year. Westmeath sure but Roscommon have won Connachts before. Most of the quarter final teams weren't provincial winners. All Ireland is the only objective for a lot of teams right now. A greats championship imo. A team lost two games and ends up winning it. There's a lot of teams from around the country who should be thinking "if Mayo can do it so can we", ourselves included. I think the main lesson to be learned from yesterday is that teams who let the handbrake off and take more risks are going to be more successful under the new rules. They took some wild shots and missed some but also scored some at important times in the game. I hope Jim looks at what Mayo achieved and comes up with a plan to do the same next year.
