There was due to be a round of football this weekend so hurling players would have planned accordingly. So would you be happy being a player who may have had something booked this weekend thinking it was a free weekend to have to go change plans with a couple weeks notice just to keep people like you happy

I do t know what happens in your club but in mine there's training on free weekends so it really doesn't make that much of a difference

It is nothing got to do with keeping the likes of me happy its having common sense. So you are telling me the board in their wisdom planned the first round of hurling for All Ireland hurling semi final weekend followed by the first round of football on All Ireland football semi final weekend followed by the second round of hurling on All Ireland hurling final weekend and then the second round of football on All Ireland football weekend. So explain to me the logic of that. Hurling players want to see our most important matches of the year and football players want to see the same in their code. Would it not have been common sense to do it the other way around? jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1986 - 09/07/2026 14:59:56 2684953 Link 0 |

Will there be football championship games played mid week? valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1932 - 09/07/2026 16:41:18 2684983 Link 0 |

Every club hurler in Westmeath can travel to Dublin on All Ireland final Sunday and go to Croke Park. What more do you want? It will be the exact same on All Ireland football final day.

All i want is that the board have common sense. You can dress it up every way you like but players make massive efforts in championship games and playing a big hard game on a saturday followed by croker on Sunday is not easy and if it was done the other way around it would be much better for hurlers and the footballers. For crying out loud its not rocket science. But anyway its pointless to continue this because its a done deal and those in the bubble cant comprehend any ctiticism.

Agree 100% The CB is completely out of touch with the grassroots. The farcical changes to the football championship have only added to the frustration, and now this fixture nonsense is another example of poor decision-making. As you say ' costly errors and creating bad public relations'. To have any real chance to develop a COE we need the have good working relationships between the board players supporters and even general public. To me it appears closer to an all time low.

If you read the football forum the Westmeath footballers are saying that Mchugh is deciding how our championships are run. Extraordinary stuff Lough Lene Gaels,Pollard,Turin fixtures are now decided in Kilcar. Dont believe me read Fighting Cock on the football forum or is that all a conspiracy theory.
