Replying To tirawleybaron:  "You should call that the "unlikely lads Allstars"

All starts are picked on performances from here on - all previous form is ignored.
Clifford is the only one from that lot who will get an all star."
We shall see.

Replying To BarneyGrant:  "Dublin certainly feared Galway at that stage. Was third clash that year.

I thought manager got short straw before Joyce came in. Took a lot of flak but was going right way. Took a few years for PJ to get back to that level?"
Agreed on Kevin Walsh.

We were heading for D3 when he took over. I remember Laois hammering us by 10 points at one stage. We were a joke of a team. Teams loved playing us and players in Galway would not commit. Mayo hammered us 4-16 to 0-11 in 2013. That was our lowest.

Kevin took over and brought us back to the top table. He made us serious again. Structures, S&C etc. He had probably reached the end of the road when he left. Managers have a shelf life.

We lost a game in Limerick to Mayo, and he took disgraceful abuse from a section of fans. The man gave his heart and soul to the county as a player and manager. He got to the top as a player. As a manager he brought us a certain distance, but people forget how bad we were.

His style of play probably wouldn't bring us the next step, but I for one will always be grateful to him. He took us on when no one would.

Replying To WanPintWin:  "I think it's a good thing that they're played as standalone fixtures. Some reasons I posted on here before:
- There was often an eerie atmosphere in Croke Park for long stretches of the minor games, until the ground eventually filled up at the end.
- Unless one of the minor teams was also in the senior final, it could often lack the passion from the crowd as very few in attendance had any skin in the game.
- There was also the fact that supporters from the competing minor counties received fewer tickets under the previous structure.
- Having a standalone game enables far more from the counties to attend.
- There was a great crowd and a brilliant atmosphere at the Galway vs Mayo final a few years ago, likewise when Monaghan were in the final and Tyrone against Kerry had a brilliant atmosphere last year. We've had the same in the hurling, most notably when Offaly brought a massive crowd, and Waterford last year too.

Those counties would only have gotten a fraction of the number of tickets, if their game was played before the senior final."
Maybe in future before the Tailteann cup final.

Eaten bread is soon forgotten! As you say, turned Galway from soft touch to team that was hard to beat.

We welcomed him with open arms in Cork!

I agree in general, Kevin Walsh made us a hard team and can still see many of the players during his time, Liam silke, Johnny heaney, comer, are very strong tacklers.
My main complaint with Walsh was bias towards the Killannin players. Not going to name anyone, but some of those players should have been nowhere near team.
Along with leaving out players from multiple all Ireland & Connacht winning corofin team.

Before he took over Galway were a joke of a team. "Not a serious football county" as Joe Brolly declared.
In fairness to Walsh he made them setious again and he devised a defensivr method of play to cover their poor defenders at the time.
The style of play is terrible to watch though and has a shelf life, so he finished in a torrent of abuse , just like when he was in Sligo.

Cork will be the same, once expectations rise people want to see their team attack with intent. You'll not get that from Walsh.

Alot of those corofin players got their chance with Galway under walsh and PJ and they simply weren't good enough for intercounty football, brilliant at club level but unfortunately not for county

One thing I will give Walsh plenty of credit for is he definitely improved structures and attitudes in the county set-up, after years of disarray.
It's worth noting, however, that by far the most successful year of his tenure was 2018 when Paddy Tally was the man most responsible for the defensive set-up (remember the "Galway shawl"?). Tally left after a year and the wheels came off in 2019.
He left Galway in a much better place than when he took over, of that there's no doubt, but his time was well and truly up.

It'll be a tough outing this weekend and I can't see much in it either way. Decision making in the last 10 will be crucial. We're not in the habit of beating Dublin in championship football and I think this one will go the wire. Dublin got a lot of joy last year from POCB on D'Arcy and they mopped up a lot of breaks. Ciarán Kilkenny was given the freedom of Pearse Stadium last year. We can't let him dictate like he did.
D'Arcy was exceptional against Westmeath, but he'll be up against a very different challenge on Sunday. We need to make sure we have plenty options for Gleeson.
If we can dominate around the middle, I think our forwards will take advantage. As we've seen all year though, momentum can swing massively in games. Even if we're a good few scores ahead, it's very unlikely the game will peter out comfortably.

At the end of the week where we lost a true legend of Maigh Cuilinn and Galway football, but more importantly a very good man, it would be a nice tribute in some way to Paul Clancy if we can get the job done. Sincere condolences to his family and all who were close to him.

Maybe, but many weren't brought in until we'll after the 3 in a row. Some of them should have seen more game time in 2017,18,19.

All 50-50 games. Baffled by those dismissing Tyrone. 3 of the 4 favourites going into last year's quarter finals fell at that hurdle.
If Dublin get through this weekend, they'll be hard to stop once they get on the momentum train of home league ground advantage at the business stage of the championship.
Galway are the away team on Sunday and will have to give extra consideration for that. Galway will be confident that if they get through this weekend that they have the game plan and players to go all the way.
Louth's results bar the blip in the Leinster semi final have been impressive. It would have me leaning towards them to get through this weekend.
Of the other 3 quarters, my attempt at predictions are: Mayo, Louth and Galway.

Well the bookies have pretty much dismissed Tyrone too, with Kerry at 1/6. You can't have any qualms with people being of a similar mindset, based on that.
