Replying To StrandedinWW:  "We play against the same group every year at Minor, while the rest teams are in an open draw. In recent years we have done well in the group stage but the real test is the knockout stage."
That's when we come unstuck every year. Other than that the guys get 3 or 4 games instead of possibly 1, it's hard to see any benefit from this group system as results further down the line - u 20 and senior don't really seem to be improving. Would we not be better concentrating on strengthening our own u17 leagues and championships ??

Not hugely hopeful to be honest. We seem to score in bursts and then fall asleep and wake up when the match is over. Carlow will be buzzing after thier promotion and they are at home, so I will say a win for Carlow. I hope I'm wrong!!

Very best of luck to them but I would be of the same opinion as yourself. Carlow are really up for it, and who can blame them. Best of luck to minors tonight. Should be a good game

Fair play to the minor team for the win but they just about fell over the line in the end...have they qualified from that group now?

A big week for Wicklow football got off to a winning start tonight when our minor team held on to beat Carlow by two points in Aughrim. Once again a Wicklow football team played well in first-half before fading in second half. At least this team held on for victory.

Tomorrow evening, the u-20 footballers travel to Tullamore to play Offaly. This team suffered a heavy defeat in round one. They'll need a massive improvenent tomorrow night if they're to win this game.

Finally, our senior footballer travel to Carlow on Sunday to play the home team n the first round of the Leinster championship with the winners playing Dublin one week later. Nobody will give Wicklow much hope as their form outside Aughrim is poor. I hope the disappointment of what happened against Longford can spur the team on. I'm hoping for a good performance over seventy minutes. Victory would condemn the disappointment of the league to the bin. Best of luck to both the u-20s and our senior footballers.

The Minor match tonight was very entertaining and the epitome of a game of 2 halves. Wicklow were phenomenal in the 1st half and led 3-10 to 0-4 at the break. Carlow started the second half well but still a comeback didn't look on. They plugged away though and Wicklow just couldn't get hold of the ball. Carlow were now in total control and reeled off 2 pointers for fun. In fact were it not for Lucas Reid's two late points Wicklow were in serious trouble. Entering injury time Wicklow led by 5, 3-15 to 0-19. Carlow then scored a wonderful goal straight to the roof of the Wicklow net and had a brilliant chance to equalise. Alas for them the ball struck the outside of the post and their chance was gone. Worryingly for Wicklow, we were outscored 1-15 to 0-5 in that second half. Hard to know where we stand.
