The better team won. Took their chances when they needed to and scored more than Armagh. Joyce made great use of the bench. Armagh defended solidly in parts but Galway exploited space a few times when their full back line was asleep. Their keeper looked shaky at times but they left him too exposed at times. Hope any of ye that travelled enjoyed the Athletic Grounds atmosphere. A great stadium when it's close to full.

Have you experienced football under the new rules? If the opposition puts any kind of a half decent press on then short kickouts are not a viable option end of story.

Armagh the better team but have to admire Galway for sticking with them and grinding it out. McDaid made a big difference but all subs made positive contributions. Well done to all.

Some stats probably don't make pretty reading, kickouts being the obvious one, but vital points won and that's the main thing."
Armagh kick outs, won 13 and lost 7

Galway kick outs, won 11 and lost 16

Of course would look a lot different with Darcy,Maher and Conroy available for selection.

Great to get the win and what impressed me most were the performances of McGlinchey and Shane McGrath. McGlinchey is such a composed performer, and a great team player. Imo, he and S. McGrath had a big influence on the result. Finnerty's lay off for Tierney's goal was sublime. What a game he had. Sean Kelly again was poor - seems to be lacking pace off the mark and not sure if he should be an automatic starter. Perhaps, he might be better utilised off the bench when things open up. If we get our kickout strategy sorted, which includes better coordinated play at midfield, we will be very difficult to beat.

There was a short one wrong and kicked straight to an Armagh forward, should have been a goal.
Also Tierney in 20 yards of space and not found, kicked out over the line in front of me, nothing to do with rules

PJ again saying that Conroy hasn't made up his mind about coming back yet. Surely to god you'd know by the end of January. Doesn't owe Galway anything but seems strange to me.

Good impact from the young lads off the bench again. Shane McGrath and McGlinchey this time.

Sean Kelly was poor except for the 3 all most certain goal opportunities he blocked when defenders lost their opponents.

Agreed, McGlinchy and McGrath really stood out when they were introduced. McGlinchy has a natural calmness about him and an ability to steady things when the game needs control. McGrath in the 9-10 minutes he got, probably contributed more than some of the forwards managed over the full match. Mulhern, again, looks like a rough diamond, plenty of potential, but in my view not championship ready yet and likely needs another year to properly embed.

When everyone is fit, there's clearly real depth in this panel. We haven't seen this many new faces step up so quickly since 2019. Oisín McDonagh continues to impress, always showing for the ball and clearly eager to be involved. Fionn drifted a bit in the second half but was a standout in the first. O'Laoi was very impressive again from wing-back, though it's a concern that he's gone off injured for the second game in a row. It was also great to see Kieran Molloy returning to form, he was pivotal in 2022 and has found it hard to reach that level again since.
Though i would still like to see Colm Costello or Alan Naughton given a proper chance playing of Finnerty in the league.

Delighted with the win. 2 points could be vital come the end of the league, played some brilliant heads up football at times and a tight game like that will be great experience for all the new lads. On the down side own kick outs in the 2nd half were a disaster

No,we're much more grounded.Just happy that the lads showed some fight and young lads did well.Armagh are not Kerry or Donegal and even if you happen to beat those teams in the league they are a different animal come championship.Just happy to get a couple of points.

Armagh aren't Kerry, but all the evidence to date suggests that they're currently not a million miles off Donegal surely. Armagh were also the 2024 allireland champs, and Donegal were not.

I was up there last night came on to talk about midfield - what are ye on about? Seán Kelly was unreal. Absolute work horse. The three nearly-certain goal chances he blocked when the defenders lost their men… he just read it, stepped in, and got them out of danger every single time. Proper leader on the pitch too.

The point is we don't get overexcited about beating Armagh in the league.Good win and we move on.
