Might be a silly question but is tonight's game been played on grass or the artificial pitch in St Lomans ? TheGaaMan77 (Westmeath) - Posts: 79 - 07/01/2026 11:38:46 2650151 Link 0 |

Any team named for tonight ? Most teams have their squads posted by now to generate a bit of interest. You'd imagine nobody involved in Sigerson this week will feature. Given that it should be quite a different line up to what was meant to play against Longford. Lakecounty94 (Westmeath) - Posts: 88 - 07/01/2026 13:24:28 2650162 Link 0 |

Yes it certainly would encourage club people to attend if they knew some of their club players were involved; Louth have released theirs so no idea why we can't. It's a hard sell for some not knowing who'll even feature.

Good auld performance to kick off the year. Was impressed with the usual lads - Luke, Wally, Lynam and Drumm all solid. Thought Kelly and Baker went very well too; you can definitely see Kelly as a nailed-on starter, and Baker as well, especially with a few backs leaving the panel. Good win and solid enough performance tonight. Some very good scores taken by us but I still think we are short one or two really dominant midfield players but nonetheless are positive start for Mark McHugh and his team. Bruno@1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 292 - 08/01/2026 10:12:46 2650239 Link 0 |

Connaughton top class goalie. I agree need Ray Connellan back asap with Lynam in midfield But most glaring mistake is giving Conor McCormack a chance lakecounty90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 161 - 08/01/2026 11:00:31 2650243 Link 0 |

Sure maybe just get the whole Caulry team to represent Westmeath?

You can laugh but anyone can see 7 or 8 Caulry players would easily improve the standard we had on display in Lomans last night

Sure why stop at 7 o 8. They are the County Champions after all. ......ohh wait! No, they are not. Meridian (Westmeath) - Posts: 714 - 08/01/2026 15:33:41 2650286 Link 3 |

So you have better players than Sam McCartan Joe Moran and players who are playing in college Cayley are not a bad team, but they are a long way of winning a senior championship two of your players are good enough and that's it

I see TUS beat NUIG in the Freshers last night, a great achievement. There seemed to be Westmeath representatives on both sides which is positive. OverTheHill85 (Westmeath) - Posts: 204 - 09/01/2026 08:30:45 2650341 Link 0 |

I refuse to believe an actual person exists with those opinions. The jokes getting old at this stage

They're not bad at all, to be fair-a few very good Offaly players in there. They played DCU Freshers A in a challenge recently and gave them a good game. They were unlucky in the league final against UL 2 as well. That said, their seniors team will struggle enough. They've a strong starting 7 or 8, but the bench is very weak. You can see why Martin and Burke left. if they can maintain Sigerosn status, that'd be a huge plus Fighting-Cocks69 (Westmeath) - Posts: 117 - 09/01/2026 13:18:27 2650387 Link 0 |

From what I heard it wasn't NUIG 1st team. I think TUS freshers are in Div 2 of Freshers Football

It was NUIG first team; some good players from Roscommon on the TUS team also. Cian Whitney and Darragh Delaney from Moate, Taylor Slevin and Paul Keegan from Tubberclair, Shane Corcoran St. Malachys and Brian Ronan from Milltownpass. Good to see a strong representation from the county. The Sigerson team doesn't seem as strong alright; but a good freshers teams should improve that in the coming years.

Yeah it's kind of like the Trench Cup at Fresher level really - all the smaller colleges in it. You've got MTU,Kerry, Carlow IT, Donegal ATU, Trinity, Mary I, Limerick IT and Waterford IT, and I think St Mary's belfast as well. Only eight teams in it, so they're definitely one of the favourites. They've Trinity in the first round on the 26th of January.
