Replying To PoolSturgeon:  "From what I gather, even Ballinasloe didnt know much about Moytura. Apparently they are an amalgamation of up to 6 football clubs in south Mayo. They were re-constituted in 2022 after an 8 year absence and had 4 panellists on this year's successful county team in the Nicky Rackard. They hadnt played a competitive hurling game since August and were beaten by a margin of 9 points yesterday by Ballinasloe."
Thanks. Looks like they lost to Tooreen's second team in the Mayo final and then went on to represent Mayo.

3 years away isnt that long. BTW I'm not downing your county by saying this, you could get to an AI final next year even, its just hard to see with who you have coming through right now, and the fact they arent getting top level development as so few of them have even got a prolonged run in the League.

Replying To basillarkin:  "how will promotion work with the primary junior hurling? will it be like the football where primary junior 1 winners (all junior teams) play the winner of primary junior 2 (all 2nd teams) to see who gets promoted to intermediate. Claregalway 2nds bt carna to go up to inter for next year. could kiltomer win the primary junior next year and play say turlough 2nds or will inter be just for first teams"
No only the Premier Junior Winners will be promoted , i think the football example this year is a good warning . Carna wont two finals and still dont get promoted .

First year for a Mayo team to be in the Junior , and its only right, it was a bit silly Galway Junior Champs went straight into the Final . And great for Ballinsloe to play it at home . The Junior hurling should be like all the other competetions, instead they always play the final in Bekan .

Easkey are going for a 4 in a row i think in Connacht which really shouldnt happen, the same when Tooreen went on a run , they should have taken at least one shot at Senior Club .

Replying To SouthGalway:  "I assume you're talking about the Seniors. I say there's a good chance Galway will be in the All Ireland within 3-5 years. The main threat is Tipp as they're mostly a young team. Limerick are slowly fading, Clare are getting older, Cork are lacking something, KK are tough as usual but beatable, Dublin, Wexford and Waterford only go so far, Offaly and Antrim don't have deep enough teams, etc."
I like that you said "be in" and I agree with you that there's a good chance- winning one who knows.

As you say most of the teams who have been at the top in recent years are ageing, and while Tipp 100% deserved their title and took the chance when it came, I don't think they have the quality to go on a dominant run. we also have the weaker province to get through so I give us a decent chance. donohue is taking awful stick at the moment but he's a proven All Ireland winning manager so I have no concerns that we're at a disadvantage on that front.

KK are 'beatable', remaining unbeaten in the last 6 Leinster Finals.

They are beatable. Galway gave away at least one of those matches you're talking about when they cleared a ball straight to a KK player that goaled it. Anyway the original post that I was responding to was for future matches. I responded by saying Galway could be in an AI in 3-5 years. Tipp proved that KK are beatable this past championship.

Kildare away in the opening round of the Walsh Cup on 4 January and then play the winner of Offaly/Antrim the following Sunday. Not the most exciting fixtures to start the year but will be interesting to see the new faces on the panel.

Since the year 2000 our record is just 50/50 against them all the same (6 wins each).

That's a pattern we're familiar with though.

While Galway and Tipp were staging three 1pt margin semis 2015-2017, Tipp we're beating KK by 9pts at the 2016 final, while Galway we're losing the 2015 and 2016 Leinster Finals comprehensively, by margins of 6 and 7pts to Kilkenny.

Even when Galway we're clearly at the top of the pecking order in 2017 and 2018, they still needed two days out to see off KK at the '18 Leinster Finals.

I remember chatting to former galway hurler his read was galway needed to be 8 to 10 points better than kilkenny to win scrape a win by one or two
