Exactly. The amount of serial losers in here happy to be competing in a Tier 2 comp when there is enough quality in the team push for tier 1 all Irelands says it all. Tier 2 is for the Fermanaghs/Antrims etc. it's a waste of time for players of that level. Glad to see the management has found their level though. But Players are being developed now after years of ignoring it. Minors also had an impressive win today. MONAGHAN ABU

Think this team is a lot more humble than those sides who on their day were right up there. Only problem was they couldn't get themselves up for the supposed easier games. Can you imagine Tyrone or Donegal of that time losing to down and fermanagh in consecutive semi finals. The group we have now are more focused. The stint in div 2 did them no harm. The leinster final and how it turns out will have a major bearing on this group. Think if louth win it given the history it will be huge and they will find it difficult to come back down to earth for a local Derby with monaghan. Meath if they back beating the dubs up with leinster title would be a much tougher proposition. Heading along Sunday regardless to croke Park as massive game and should be great occasion.

All of the games listed by Exile were really that much of a shock? If you look at league position as a mark of how good a team is then 2011, 2016, 2017 & 2020 were shocks. The others not so much. See in bold below... MrPBoylan (Monaghan) - Posts: 235 - 07/05/2025 10:34:23 2607290 Link 0 |
Monaghan need to approach the Group stages the same as they approached the league and play with attacking flair. They were more cagey/nervous against Donegal but they have to play with confidency from her on. SouthMonMan (Monaghan) - Posts: 156 - 07/05/2025 12:11:23 2607323 Link 1 |
Question still remains we haven't coped well with blanket defences in the past and a lot of the above defeats in the past has been the root cause and the 2 losses this year is due to this as well so have we developed or have we a plan to counteract this if we haven't learned from 7 players around the arc v donegal and down we're goosed this needs to be addressed as a major concern going forward it was shambolic to see the likes of o hanlon running straight into 5 donegal lads ,turnovers are massive in tight matches and can swing a match so we need to develop and learn fast thoughts please ? Thoughts are, Gabie should step down and you should take over.

its a reasonable point on a forum for creating debate...i have faith we are in a positive place right now. the down and donegal games did negate our attacking prowess but to be fair we finished strong - for me the trick is to just finish strong quicker! it wasnt our strongest 15 starting against down and vrs donegal there were some poor snap shots in the first half. that can be tidied up MalsBalls (Monaghan) - Posts: 222 - 08/05/2025 08:38:38 2607513 Link 0 |
2016 loss to Longford, 2017 and 2018 ulster semi final losses were unforgivable really. That was a fine monaghan team who should have picked up two more ulster and made an all Ireland final in 2018. 2020 to cavan was also one of the worst defeats we have had. They had been relegated and we have a very good division 1 that year. It was a sickening defeat with another ulster there for the taking. We will account for clare but down meath louth are not certified wins by any means.

Fair comment yes agreed I do feel we need to use the wings more often when we're under this type of system but it can be hard to breakdown a defence so condensed

Sorry lad, solely aimed at FarneyGael3 who seems to have taken over the mantle of VeteranGaa on visiting the Donegal page with his insights. Plus he oddly seems to think he knows me.
