The timing of the finals and the gaps between big games has backfired to an alarming degree. Intercounty season needs to be pushed into August.

The games are overrated, a large amount of the players overrated too (Peter O'Mahony for example, can anyone name one extremely important game he was an actual game changer in?)

You have to admire how a niche sport like rugby attracts such attention. It is an awful sport to watch, like a bad game of junior b football in November. Yet the razzmatazz that flows from it is unreal."
I don't think it's an awful sport to watch at all. However I do think it is the in thing in recent years. Which like everything that sees its popularity rise is followed by a lot of bandwagon supporters and people who are just happy to be there so they can talk about it in the office on Monday. But that's OK too, that's life and how these things go. You get it in GAA too when teams are going well. But I would love to know what percentage of primarily GAA supporters also watch some rugby and what percentage of primarily Rugby supporters would also watch a bit of GAA.

'like a bad game of junior b football in November'

If your junior B football in November looks like rugby then your junior b football has a problem. It sounds like you have no clue about the rules of rugby and that it's also played outside of South Dublin. Is Carrick on Shannon in South Dublin?

You're a marketeers dream! You purport to hate it and yet you can offer an opinion on an individual players performance? Does this analysis come from watching it perhaps?

I watch world cups. I didn't say I hate it. I said it is an awful sport. Sometimes you have to watch a bad sport to appreciate a good one.

It's a pretty basic game, not too hard to understand the rules. No, Carrick is in Leitrim

You haven't a clue of the rules. Carrick indeed is not in South Dublin. But it has a rugby club. So you're contradicting yourself.

Replying To GreenandRed:  "What difference does it make to the GAA how rugby are doing? Plenty of players and supporters will play or follow hurling, football, rugby and soccer and play or attend all sports if they have a chance. And they might only play or watch one sport. Each to their own."
Correct, the point was there is a perception you get from the media is that rugby are flying, filling stadia every other week while all we hear about the GAA is about falling crowds. The truth is very different.

Replying To CARPS:  "I am not anti-rugby. I love rugby. Specifically club rugby. However, I find the professional games increasingly monotonous. Had an enjoyable day out at the Towns Cup final this weekend. Shame about the result.

My point is that it's not as popular as some claim. The figures don't back it up. And its level of popularity doesn't justify the huge coverage it's getting compared to other sports.

That's the debate here."
The popularity at top level does justify the media coverage though.
Ita the biggest pro sport in country with top players playing at home and doing well.

Replying To CARPS:  "The Leinster School's Senior Rugby final this year didn't fill Tallaght Stadium. There were about 9,000 at it.

The Leinster under 20 hurling final last year attracted a much larger crowd to Portlaoise. Must have been at least 15,000."
You are co.paring two schools against 2 vou ties. Not exactly a fair comparison

I wouldn't think so. The league of Ireland has a far bigger attendance than club rugby.

Lads rolling around the field, people clapping when a ball is kicked aimlessly high into the air or out of play. It is just really silly, but sometimes watchable for the chance there might be a dust up in it.

I feel like I'm a dying breed that just love sport.

Listening to pat spillane we are two of a kind.

I might watch a bit of the IPL this afternoon, Rory & Lowry playing together in golf tonight, bits of europa league and darts.

Might catch some NRL at weekend morning and GAA Premier League across Saturday and Sunday.

I don't really like horse racing so don't watch it but wouldn't be then on a forum criticising Tony McCoy or be able to say he doesn't perform in big races as I don't have any knowledge on it

In fairness it isn't McCoy performing, it is the horse he is on

Yeah same, I'll watch GAA, soccer and rugby whenever I get the chance. Been watching a lot of NBA and AFL recently too. Watch the majors in golf and snooker here and there. Can't really get into Darts or NFL though. I've loads of mates into the horses too but I know effectively nothing about it.

While I do like the rugby as a sport and follow it and I can 100% appreciate the criticism it gets. There's so much bluster about it among the fans and media it would almost put you off. I try to just watch the games and block out all the linkedin nonsense

I agree with you. I recall in a challenge game against New Zealand last year the lad with the ponytail kicked a ball out for a sideline cut and started waving his arms and them getting hockeyed. Hilarious really to be celebrating booting the ball out and giving the opposition the possession back especially when they were getting hammered.

You'll be more than happy sticking to club football in Leitrim so! As you said before it's all that matters to you.
Do you have a television to watch the matches or do you listen to them on the wireless?
