Replying To The_DOC:  "He did that as well though!

Or did he just score against big teams and had quiet games against the weaker ones?"
Just going around in circles now.. he obviously got scores in every game.

I think London 2016 was one of the few he didn't score in because of an early black card.

Replying To TheFlaker:  "You are again missing the point. Nobody is claiming COC is a Clifford or Canavan. It's people on here assuming he was a free taker who racked up scores in handy provincial games."
Actually the person who brought him into the debate was catch up

Replying To MayoDan:  "Surely Klose's goal against Brazil in 2014 should be removed from that since it was such a crazy game?"
Correct he still is leading scorer without it lol.

He also has a winners medal so maybe not a good example to compare

Replying To yew_tree:  "Cillian played on the edge. He was not the only one and plenty of Kerry and Dublin players down the year have done so. That does not take away from the fact he was a heavy scorer for Mayo. The reason people will question or belittle his achievements is the same reason they laughed at Keegan and Moran getting player of the year…they didnt win a Celtic cross medal. Until Mayo do so we will be a laughing stock. That's the harsh truth of it but I don't lose any sleep over it. Much more important things in life to be worrying about."
You keep saying Mayo are a laughing stock, speak for yourself.
Change the record, good man

Replying To oneshot:  "he wouldn't lace matt connor's boots also maurice fitzgearld john Egan mike sheedy were as good as him."
Never said he would! And I wouldn't have him in the same sentence as those 3 Kerry players you mentioned, they were once in a generation players.

He's right. Not that most Mayo people pay a bit of heed to anyone slagging us. It's good auld banter.

Replying To realdub:  "Dean Rock was as important, if not, the most important part of that Dublin team. Most accurate free taker I've ever seen and always on the big occasion. He was first recognised for his points from play when he used to come on late in games.

O'Connor is a top inter-county forward, and was only a hair's width from being the main man on a great All=Ireland winning team, and on more than one occasion."
I agree 100%. His Dad Barney was top class too but Dean the most accurate place kicker I have seen.

Replying To TheFlaker:  "Again I wasn't debating where COC should stand in the list of great forwards. I was simply defending his scoring record. That's it."
Cillian O Connor was a great player and a brilliant scorer.Contributors that cant see that might have bad judgement or dont like Cillian. His record speaks for itself.

He's not right.
It's a weak, defeatist attitude.
I know many GAA people from many counties and they have respect for the Mayo team. We were involved in many great games and kept coming back, again and again. Admirable in my opinion

Why did you bring up the example so?

Maybe Cillian should be compared to Shane Walsh and Damien Comer as they're all a similar age.. although their scoring rates are very different.

We lost 11 finals. People try making fun of us for it. Some do it for the banter. Plenty of people have respect for the various Mayo teams. Doesn't mean that some don't try getting a rise from Mayo people about Mayo GAA.So have the craic with some or ignore them. A sense of humour is important.

Yew tree said we're a laughing stock and you said he's right.
If the two of ye are happy with people laughing at ye that's your perogative. I wouldn't and the Mayo people I know wouldn't either.
We've had more success than the majority of the 32 counties
