Don't think there will be much interest at this time of year. The league doesn't really get anyone excited. It's just a waiting game until championship really. Just need to look coherent, try a few new lads and I wouldn't worry about results. The Fitzgibbon should be informative as University Galway should be going close to winning it with this squad - it's pretty much a three team competition to win against UL and UCC. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 807 - 06/01/2025 10:39:21 2584754 Link 1 |

Nah, back to the Donoghue regime of all info being hidden from the public.

Good run out for our lads down in Clare today. We won by 6 points, 1-30 to 1-24. Both teams were experimental enough. Clare did bring in Reidy, Malone and Ryan Taylor in the second half. They had started with Shanagher and Shane Meehan up top so our backs got a decent enough test. Colm Molloy excellent up front for us. Donal O'Shea very good at midfield and I thought Whelan and Salmon in the backs were strong. Our subs in the second half were all young lads. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 807 - 11/01/2025 15:40:27 2585496 Link 1 |
Galway beat Clare in the Challenge Match. I don't know who lined out for Galway or who did the scoring. 1-30 to 1-24 Final score. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2295 - 11/01/2025 15:42:21 2585498 Link 0 |
Best of luck to TAD tomorrow, underdogs in eyes of bookies, might suit, Galway teams never good favourites. WesternSeaBoard (Galway) - Posts: 139 - 11/01/2025 18:48:10 2585534 Link 1 |
Interesting lineup. Quite a few of them names I don't recognize. Hon Galway!

Not many of these will be near a Galway 15.

Hard luck to TAD in the Intermediate Final. Led by one point at end of regulation but Cork outscored them 5-1 in extra time. Heartbreaker. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2295 - 12/01/2025 16:41:48 2585644 Link 1 |
Are Galway hurlers playing any challenge game this weekend? Any details, please share. Thanks OhIWouldYa (Galway) - Posts: 11 - 16/01/2025 22:40:47 2586148 Link 1 |
Wouldnt see much point in them playing challenge matches with Fitzgibbon starting. Too many players get injured playing on heavy pitches playing maybe 2 times in the week with their 3rd level institute and then expected to line out with the county in meaningless challenges.

There are 57 currently on the panel so you won't hear about the full squad for a little while yet. We only know that Cooney, Tuohy and GMac are gone and David Burke is giving it another year.

I am of the view that if the ordinary supporter was kept in the loop a bit more there would be a higher level of interest. We will see a few die-hard supporters fetching up for the beginning of the league. Meanwhile we see Connacht Rugby selling out 25k in Castlebar. The perpetual secrecy has one effect. It kills interest in the game. We need to wake up and keep genuine hurling supporters informed as to what is going on. People will go to games if they have a local interest in the team and if they are treated with a bit more respect. SixtiesKid (Galway) - Posts: 333 - 23/01/2025 11:31:28 2587102 Link 2 |
I think the condensed schedule, coupled with the expanded rota of championship games has diminished interest in NHL and NFL games. Doubly so, when most of them can be watched on TV in the largely inclement weather spell January-March. If fans are flat out, in a strong dual county like Galway, attending 'proper' games from April to July (hopefully), there's likely to be diminished interest in attending the January-March fare?
