Ummm, do you not own a map? You think Clonas is closer?

Two county pitches, Clonas and Castleblayney, if you think Castleblayney isn't the closet to Cavan well, I know who didn't do geography in school.

cavanman47....... Thank you for your kind support! tiobraid (Tipperary....... That's ok, tis easy to misread a post! From reading elsewhere, someone has stated , Blaney has had a few modifacations to embankments/terraces, which leaves capacity aprox. 10,000. If this is true, then would be just ample for the game. (prob expect 8-10,000 no matter where staged!). Being more compact would certainly lead to a better atmosphere. Regarding closeness to Cavan, Blaney is certainly a lot closer to, Kingscourt, B'borough & Shercock & West Cavan! Monaghan Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 444 - 09/02/2017 20:01:34 1954156 Link 0 |

There is no way Castleblaney is closer for the majority of Cavan people. For a few pockets in east Cavan it might be closer but that's it. Clones has better roads into and out of it if you know where to go as a lot of us would. More than half of Cavan fans will probably be going through Cootehill and Ballybay which wouldn't be a great road (at least last time I went that way anyway). If there's any sort of crowd going I'd imagine there'll be delays.

According to the rte guide this match is gonna be on League Sunday: The programme includes Dublin v Tipperary, Cork v Clare, Kilkenny v Waterford and Wexford v Limerick in hurling, and Dublin v Tyrone, and Monaghan v Cavan in football God knows how much time they'll give to it but at least there'll be some coverage. I'll be there squashed in with the other thousands, hoping for a good game and really hoping monaghan win... it'd be just like us to beat mayo and then lose the next match as favourites! turkeyplucker (UK) - Posts: 137 - 10/02/2017 12:04:26 1954323 Link 0 |
Stop embarrassing yourself like a good man. Clones is certainly a lot closer to the Cavan border (and the majority of the county) than Blaney is. Just take a quick look on Google maps (if you can find it). Two minutes research (without even taking in north Cavan as not to show you up too much) shows the following results: Cootehill to Clones 20k Cootehill to Blaney 30k Lough Gowna to Clones 51k Lough Gowna to Blaney 77k Even Virginia in the very south of Cavan is less than 2k closer to Blaney than Clones. benched (Tyrone) - Posts: 534 - 10/02/2017 12:51:53 1954350 Link 0 |

Also the reason for my original comment was two friends from work are coming to the game from Cootehill and told me they find getting to Blayney quicker and easier than Clones, so I better let them know that people on this know better than them which pitch is closer to their home. You don't work for the Trump administration by any chance do you? Just saying something isn't true doesn't make it so, no matter how hard you wish it to be. Anyway enough of this side show, hope it's a good match on Sunday and you enjoy it, Blaney actually not a bad town for a big game..... if you can find your way to it that is! benched (Tyrone) - Posts: 534 - 10/02/2017 13:42:47 1954376 Link 0 |
We know what you .mean but for the majority of Cavan supporters clones is closer no matter how much you argue.

It just show that even basic facts can be distorted. Clones is right on the borders of Cavan (within 2ml) and very close to Cavan town-it is obviously the closest of the Monaghan county grounds to Cavan county (from the north, south and west). browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 10/02/2017 14:54:30 1954414 Link 0 |
It's should be a very close game, don't worry about the distance, we are all going here to watch a good hard fought game, it can go either way , but hope the boys pull it off Horsebox42 (Monaghan) - Posts: 2 - 10/02/2017 15:28:35 1954426 Link 0 |

According to Belfast Telegraph, Blaney will have a 14,000 capacity. If true, more than ample for a Lge game. fao; turkeyplucker i hope you & RTE guide are right, I was going by both last Weeks League Sunday & TG4's GAA17, when neither channel listed the Mon/Cvn game highlites to be shown . Remember the NHL starts on Sun. too! Monaghan Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 444 - 10/02/2017 20:58:51 1954527 Link 0 |
