Can the GAA survive the Rugby onslaught

Don't know why you are suggesting there is rugby bashing in my post Janesboro, just explaining why these games are shown. A couple of posters have previously claimed that RTE would only show them if there was huge public interest but Nugent has confirmed this was not the case, they are shown as part of a deal between the IRFU and RTE to get maximum exposure for the sport. I am certain there would be greater debate about camogie and the hurling leagues on here if they were given prime time slots on RTE also, media coverage plays a huge role. They've been different shapes for years. Probably all positions in rugby could find a game playing Gaelic football except for the bulkier props and hookers. Ha, funny but ridiculous! TG4 has far more interesting things on sports wise than your proverbial dog and it only gets very small viewing figures. Does the camogie final or the FAI cup final get 160k viewers when then those games are televised live each year? -- I very much doubt it. Probably no more than half that (the camogie final anyway). A certain percentage of people in this country just watch what is on RTE. Look at the viewership the Late Late show.It's complete rubbish but has very good viewership figures.Put womens rugby on TG4 and I'd say the figures would be much much worse. You would be right to doubt it, the camogie final gets well over 200k viewers despite being on Sunday afternoon in September when the number of TV viewers generally would be much smaller than a Friday evening in February. If someone was watching the Tyrone game tonight and tells their mate that they reckon there was about 30,000 at it but there was really 40,000 that doesn't make them anti-GAA does it?
