Nice to see Louth got funding for their new stadium in Dundalk. It did get me wondering if there have been any recent news on Pairce Tailteann. It's gone awful quiet.

"Pairc Tailteann redevelopment held up until funds arrive"

It's truly embarrassing at this stage. What have the Pairc Tailteann redevelopment committee been doing for the last few years? Other counties have got the act together and advanced their stadiums.

The plans have been stripped and hollowed back. Delay after delay. I believe that incremental works and necessary remedial works could have been initiated so that some progress could be seen.

So unsurprising with how this project has panned out.

Yes its very frustrating, I think the issue is the drawdown of IIP funding which is done via the Dept of Justice, the process is incredibly slow, mind you I would have thought Croke Park would give the green light when it's guarantee income via a government department, wd have 3 government TDs in the county, I would have their phones hopping to get a push on

Great news this evening on PT.
HQ have given the go ahead for the redevelopment to go out to Tender.

Onwards and upwards.

Leave the terracing as is for the moment and just concentrate on a new Main stand, and floodlights.
Exciting times ahead for Meath GAA.

Fionn, yes welcome news but when the bucket goes through that stand I'll finally believe something is happening.

There have been so many false starts on this project with more excuses than you could think of. Updates without updates, push backs from Q1s to Q4s with a rinse and repeat approach, covid, funding applications, design changes, construction inflation, more design changes, construction cost analysis, new planning application etc etc.

I'm not being cynical but 1 positive press release doesn't change a thing.

I understand these developments are considerable undertakings and there are challenges (some which could not be foreseen such as covid). However, none have stopped other counties starting and finishing thier projects since planning permission was granted in 2018. That's seven years ago now and prior to Covid and spiralling costs - how much could it have been delivered for then, as we know the.cheapest time to build is always the now.

And I won't go too much into the substantial watering down of the project which was to be a 22,000 all seater stadium. Firstly, the grandstand on Brews Hill was binned, secondly the realignment of the pitch was scrapped, thirdly, the current stand was reduced from 7,000 to 5,000 seats with many of the internals stripped back, fourthly, references to the stands behind the goals has been changes to 'upgrades' to the grass banks, so i take it the seated stands are out here too - and that's only from what I have read in articles and press releases

So not only have seven years been lost but also the plans for a modern stadium, as ambitious as they may have been, have been hollowed out and slimmed down. If I had a crystal ball, I would see the 5,000 seat stand being built and that will be our lot before we are awash with a plethora of more excuses as to why the job cannot be done!

Positive news, but I'll hold fire until there's actually development happening.

Will this have an effect on Pairc Tailteann as a venue for Meaths League matches for 2026?
Louth have been impacted badly recently by redevelopment.
