Dunderry beat Boardsmill well to set up an all or nothing clash with Dunboyne in the last round for the third place quarter-final place. GoalanTwo (Meath) - Posts: 6 - 28/08/2016 22:37:30 1907208 Link 0 |
Looks like there were a couple of SHC matches decided by refereeing decisions this weekend. Wedgie (Meath) - Posts: 253 - 29/08/2016 08:44:42 1907287 Link 0 |
who are you referring to Wedgie? overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 29/08/2016 09:36:16 1907330 Link 0 |
I think that one is kind of obvious (or just read the report on here!). I wasn't at the game, so I can't comment on the refereeing decisions, but I was shocked when I saw a picture showing both referee and linesman were from Kildalkey.

Attended 4 games over the weekend and I thought Nick Fitz was the pick of the refs on show. Really let the game flow, the decision that cost Trim was a line ball that had nothing to do with the referee. It is strange that a Kildalkey man can referee a game that directly influences Kildalkey but don't think that was the losing of the game for Trim, the penalty was a big turning point in the game. The constant bickering from the Trim line is embarrassing at times and certainly doesn't do them any favors when it comes to 50/50 calls. begining (UK) - Posts: 320 - 29/08/2016 10:06:50 1907366 Link 0 |
Totally agree with referee being poor was at longwood Navan game yesterday ref was from athboy so his club wud be playing losers he gave 16 freed to longwood in second half which half weren't and Navan had to be killed to get a free!! The standard was that bad I notice a Navan player got two yellow cards and didn't get shown a red I think that somes up the refs meathman20 (Meath) - Posts: 83 - 29/08/2016 10:17:26 1907376 Link 0 |
Think toher made up for the penalty by scoring 1.4 ( 1.3) from play. hurley1 (Meath) - Posts: 45 - 29/08/2016 10:23:09 1907385 Link 0 |
Was at a couple of the games as was said earlier the Kilmessan Kildalkey game never really got going and wasnt a great game to look at but for the last 10 mins both sides will have to and can improve. The Trim Killyon match was a cracker which either side could have won. On the ref situation while it was strange that a kildalkey man was reffing it I taught he did a good job of the game let it flow as much as he could was no handy frees given and whatever anout the sideline decission it was the abuse by the trim player that cost them the match not the sideline decission which was not made by the ref. As for the outcome effecting kildalkey if anything the killyon win was a worst outcome for kildalkey but at the end of the day any result had little effect on kildalkey. Really interesting final round of games with group A wide open still 5 teams in with a chance and no team guaranteed qualifacation yet couldn't be set up any better. In the other group I was surprised by the perfomance of blackhall really put it up to kiltale by all accounts and could have caused a huge shock. Out come of grouup looks all but tied up barring a huge upset by Dunderry. Flash27 (Meath) - Posts: 55 - 29/08/2016 10:34:38 1907399 Link 0 |
Nick Fitzgerald is easily the best in the county refereeing wise in my opinion. he lets the game flow where as other referees (like yesterday in PT) blow for everything and it ruins the game for everyone. I thought fergus smith let a lot go too in Dunganny Thursday. overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 29/08/2016 11:24:25 1907450 Link 0 |
Given the relatively small number of hurling clubs, I would guess that it would be hard enough to find a referee from a club which was not affected in some way by the result of a game. That is especially so if you are looking for a top referee to ref a senior championship game - how many refs of that quality do we have in the county? I guess we have to trust in the integrity of the refs. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 29/08/2016 15:16:01 1907654 Link 5 |
Just want to make a quick point about player welfare in this county. Dunderry had a brilliant win on Sunday against boardsmill in the SHC and are expected to play again next Sunday in a battle for a quarter final against dunboyne. Usually this would not be a problem but the fact of the matter is that dunderry have 10 dual players. Those ten players are expected to play on Friday night in the IFC in a make or break game and then are fixed to play again on Sunday. ... this is outrageous in my opinion and the county board need to take a look at themselves in the interstate of player welfare christy16 (Meath) - Posts: 3 - 29/08/2016 18:55:46 1907778 Link 1 |
There is no need a quarter final in the SHC. Top 2 teams from each group should qualify for the semi final. Ant more is overkill.

What about supporter welfare? I have to go see a club Meath SHC match next Sunday next Sunday at 12:00 and then make my way to Croke Park for the All Ireland Hurling final for 3:30 then back to try and catch another Meath SHC match later that evening and I don't even know where they're being played. Proof if proof were needed how little our County Board care about Hurling in this county. Wedgie (Meath) - Posts: 253 - 29/08/2016 20:01:22 1907795 Link 0 |

Any reason why this weekend's hurling fixtures haven't been finalised? They aren't appearing on the Meath GAA site Belt (Meath) - Posts: 274 - 30/08/2016 10:07:46 1907947 Link 0 |
Because it's only Hurling.

Why in the world are 9 Dual players from Dunderry asked to play two very important championship matches in football and hurling in 48hrs. This is a disgrace
