Out of interest, where did the rest of the Dunderry minors end up playing? Presumably, although Dunderry couldn't field a minor team, they must have had more than two minor players. Did they all join Trim? Did they join another club? Or did they just quit altogether? I've no axe to grind on this, just genuinely curious. anfearbeag (Meath) - Posts: 1134 - 19/10/2016 13:36:24 1927572 Link 4 |
Trim only did the right thing in allowing a 2 or 3 Dunderry hurlers play for them at minor this year. No point depriving young lads hurling, and they are good hurlers who will strengthen them. Looks like a good minor final ahead. Trim beat the fancied champs from last year Na Fianna in semi final while Kildalkey beat Killyon/Longwood who are very strong. Great big day out for both teams and we'll hopefully see new stars showing they're talents. Trim have Cullen and Farrell while Kildalkey have McNally and Potterton, all who stand out on county underage teams. Best of luck both teams. Trim got a full back and centre back who are county minors, and they already have 5 county minors. Na Fianna didn't stand a chance and all I want to know is why was this allowed. Basically half a county minor team Trim have overthehill72 (Meath) - Posts: 334 - 19/10/2016 14:06:32 1927589 Link 0 |
I dont think CJ would have the time nor the inclination for the job. Deccie Murray is very involved with the juveniles so i cant see him going for it. I would say that you need a clean break from the current management and Toher concentrating on playing and not coaching. He is a good hurler but doesn't always perform to the optimum when the pressure is on. He needs further development on that side of his game. I would look at the likes of Denis O'Keeffe, Ronan Fitsimons and Kevin Walsh if they are interested / available. oldsam_newsam (Meath) - Posts: 638 - 19/10/2016 16:29:13 1927634 Link 0 |
Na fianna only lost by a score. Would have fancied them to win but they didn't. Hardly can say they didn't stand a chance. If lads wanted to play hurling it would be the wrong thing to deprive them. Trim did the right thing. showforit (Meath) - Posts: 156 - 19/10/2016 20:32:21 1927703 Link 0 |
The full back isnt a county minor. Would you rather them lads didnt get to play hurling all year? they have potential so I dont see why its an issue that they're getting game time with another club. Na Fianna did stand a chance, in fact they should've won they missed 4-5 scorable frees

Do you really need to ask why someone would choose to Hurl for Trim over NOM or Athboy?

No idea I think those two were the only actual minors on the team or else the others just quit, i think Dunderry still had U16 and U17 teams for the younger lads but im not sure to be honest

I agree with everything you have said apart from your new suggestions. There needs to be a new person from outside the club but knows the players and their temperments. Those mentioned are too close to those involved on the panel

Fair enough but not easy to identify and recruit an outside manager as shown with Eamonn C. Those guys I mentioned wouldn't be massively close to the panel or perhaps they are.

Does anyone on here give Killyon a chance on Sunday. Kiltale have to be bet sometime. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 418 - 21/10/2016 14:19:18 1928160 Link 0 |
It wont be a walk in the park as some people might think.. Kilyon are a dogged team and have the bit of experience in the right places that will make it difficult for Kiltale. id say kilyon by 2 points..

It doesn't matter what anyone on here thinks, it is down to the Killyon players themselves. It is a final, it is there to be won, whether it be Killyon or Kiltale. I wish both teams all the best, but come on Killyon.

I quite fancy Killyon for this one, I've watched them all year and they've fought hard to get here, they have plenty of players who can score from play so they're not over reliant on frees. As someone said, they're dogged and they'll certainly be hungry for it. I'm not a betting man but if I were I sneak a Euro on them to win. Matter how much you look/admire the qualities Killyon bring to the table like Physical, gutsy, committed etc there is no getting away from the fact that Kiltale are a far superior team in all sectors of the field. Kiltale are used to winning, fast, clever, superior stick work and if they perform they will win. Killyon defensive system will only get them so far and I worry that they'll struggle to even put up a decent score as they'll need something like 2-20 to beat Kiltale and that's not going to happen with defensive set up and inferior players. Kiltale by 12 points. Redsalltheway (Meath) - Posts: 116 - 21/10/2016 19:13:57 1928236 Link 0 |
Best of luck today, the two best teams are definitely in it. Wedgie (Meath) - Posts: 253 - 23/10/2016 15:35:54 1928439 Link 0 |
Well done Kilyon, everyone I heard mentioning it before match thought they would be hammered. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1413 - 23/10/2016 17:46:00 1928455 Link 0 |
Fantastic game to watch, worthy winners. Killyon really put it up to them and were really unlucky not to win it in the end. A very evenly matched contest that could easily have gone either way. Like I said, the two best teams were there. Wedgie (Meath) - Posts: 253 - 23/10/2016 18:10:11 1928460 Link 0 |
