The Mort Returns?

(Oldest Posts First)

Got a text last night from a mate to say Conor Mortimer is back in the Mayo squad. I checked Twitter, a lot of rumours but no confirmed reports. There was a cryptic tweet from the man himself but nothing more. It would be a huge shock if it were true.

He is entitled to a chance the same as anyone else.

But it is probably more likely that he is helping out with training in Dublin

On his twitter account he says the following 'Simply only a silly but rather funny rumour'.

Very surprised to read that online last night. I dont think he will have much to offer. He is the same vintage as Dillon and Moran but he hasnt played or trained to that level in almost four years. Those who would argue that he is a natural forward are correct but the game has gone even more physical since he last togged for Mayo. We shall all be watching with interest to see if there is anything to this story or if its an early April fools.

This has to be a joke he hasn't played county ball in 4 years and what age is he now? I honestly think it's a crazy call and massive backward step from the management if true.

Today's the 31st of March right?

Based on the shooting last weekend against Ros they could do with a couple of forwards able to kick a point! any chance Ciaran McDonald might make a comeback too!!

I hope not. We've gotten on ok in the past three years without him, and when it comes down to it, Mort's style of play doesn't fit into the high-pressing that the Mayo forward unit do. We're also grand for free-takers at the moment, so it's hard to see what he's going to bring to the side.

Ah he only put that a few minutes ago. It fairly gathered pace last night, how these things start? Of course the man himself added fuel to the fire as he would!

Hard seeing how he could make a realistic impact at his age now, They might as well bring Willie Joe back while they're at it!

That is even less likely. McEntee asking Mort for a hand with training, lol.

Well personally I think it is just an april fools, but hypothetically if they were looking for help, I believe he has relevant qualifications and is involved with a gym up there. He was also involved with coaching one of the LOI soccer clubs and lives in the area. Clearly, if they needed a body to keep training going smoothly, he would be well placed to fill that role and maybe offer some facilities...

A natural forward something mayo badly need. Himself coc and young regan would a all ireland winning full forward line. Likes of Doherty, dillon and Moran are game lads who unfortunately miss as much as they score

In his day he was better than any the Mayo forwards they have currently. If Horan had kept him on the panel they would surely have won one all Ireland

I'd take both Aidan O'Shea and Cillian O'Connor over him, and given that he never performed in an All-Ireland final (unlike Ciarán MacDonald or Andy Moran, say), I don't think he would have made much difference in the last few deciders.

Also, when did people start doing April Fools' Day pranks in March?
